Natural Monopoly Rule - No city will have more than two shops, unless it is crucial to the story that there be a hundred vendors which you must visit in order (see You Always Travel In The Right Circles.) All of these shops will sell the same goods for the same price.

So damn bloody true! I can never find the damn rune trader or skill trainer in Guild Wars when I really need one, and where is always a merchant in the middle of friggin' nowhere...!!

Way To Go, Serge
It will eventually turn out that, for a minimum of the first sixty percent of the game, you were actually being manipulated by the forces of evil into doing their sinister bidding for them. In extreme cases this may go as high as 90%. The clear implication is that it would have been better to not get involved in the first place.
WRONG!

Serge was actually doing Balthasar's work the whole time. Sure the others manipulated him too, but that was only due to Balthasar's manipulation.

Grenth pwns Balthasar!

Who?

EDIT: Since I don't seem to be getting an answer, I'll try to preempt one:

*Spoilers for Chrono Cross*
Balthasar, one Guru from an ancient kingdom of magic, invented two different time machines(Epoch and Neo-Epoch), created a supercomputer called FATE, built a time research facility that, by his plan, screwed up time allowing itself to be pulled backwards in time by Lavos, causing the planet to pull a city and an accompanying moon from another universe into its own, where it proceeded to battle with the time research facility and lost allowing FATE to create lots of islands in an archipelagio and separate the Dragon God into six pieces, eventually leading up to where a kid gets killed by his mutated Dad only to be saved by a time-traveling clone of Schala that somehow caused a split creating another entire freaking universe, allowing the saved kid to eventually become a lot stronger and after partnering up with forty million people he becomes really strong, ALL to destroy a creature that, when fully evolved, was capable of eating all of space-time.

Balthasar's megalomania and sheer scientific, magical, and reasoning capabilities utterly annihilates whoever this Grenth character is.

Who? - snips excessive blather -
Balthasar would never trump Grenth.

Grenth (http://gw.gamewikis.org/wiki/Grenth) is the god of the Under World, and he governs the necromancy and ritualist classes, and the elementalist subclass of hydromancer and leading the dead to the underworld to meet the envoys who will escort you after death. His existence promotes the perception of reality as it truly is and not under the shroud of illusion.

...and if you're a Guild Wars player, you ought to know who Grenth is! You grovel enough before him when we actually have favour! If not... shame shame shame!!

I'd like to add two of my own to this list

You Smell- No matter how long the characters are on a journey to save the world, they never once shower, shave, brush their teeth, or even use the bathroom

Archaelogical Supremacy- No matter how much technology the world has, the hero will always be the first person in an ancient temple/castle/city in a thousand years. It would seem that his gut instincts are better are decoding the past then all the world's scientists and historians combined. (example Centra Ruins in FF8

As well as:

"Kitty Kitty (Lunar Rule) - Any weird or otherwise unidentifiable species of animal that hangs around the party through the game will, by the end, have suddenly realized they were an insanely powerful and useful beast that would've been awesome to have had anytime before the very last boss."

"Monk Law - Monks are always the strongest class, because of their multiple hits and dodge/crit chances. Even the fighter, whose name suggests he's very good at fighting, is dwarfed when his plateau of 9999 is hit and still only attacking once per turn."

"Monk Exception (Tidus' Law) - Monk's Law is always in effect, unless a particular character has a special attack or weapon that allows for a crazy amount of attacks in one turn."

Every country in the world will have exactly one town in it, except for the country you start out in, which will have three."

:D That one was hilarious.
