Speeding is NOT trivial. Speed limits exist for a reason, usually the safety of yourself and others. I don't know how many times I've seen speeders on these mountain roads go careening off the side of the road into a nearby ditch or off the nearest cliff(luckily most around here are only ten feet high or so, so they don't kill themselves) because they were too stupid to slow down.
The Autobahn has very little accidents for a road with no speed limit. The only downside is that when accidents do happen, they have more fatalities, but accidents overall are lower than those in the US.

I break a lot of the laws that are still on the books but no longer enforced.....my state happens to have a lot of really stupid laws about sexual activity.

Yes, well, you Germans(that is Germany, right?) probably teach auto-safety and responsibility better than Americans. Here...well, for whatever reason, people seem to be fond of considering speed limits idiotic and intentionally ignore them in favour of dangerous speeds. I was nearly run off the road off of one of those very cliffs I spoke of more than once due to a speeder.
Smunkee: Oh, yeah, there's that stuff that I ignore all the the time. For instance there's a law in this state that says it's illegal to fire artillary at buildings, so I have a minature catapult that I fire at my house all the time, occasionally in front of a passing cop. They give me odd looks but they never do anything about it. I looked up the sentencing on that law too: it's supposed be a minimum of ten years in jail. :D

somewhere it's on the books in my state that it's illegal to have sex with children in the house.
it's also illegal to use profanity in the presence of a woman, there is a fine and a 3 year jail sentence.....I found that out and said "oh, shit!" :p

Don't worry, I knew what you meant. A law like that makes no sense, and the one about profanity makes even less sense. My sister uses profanity all the time, so should she be jailed for it? Sheesh. Bloody censoring of free speech.
But then, old laws are always funny. Sometimes I want to go to the state congress and start up a debate on removing them, but then I realize that it's just so much more fun to disobey them and giggle to oneself without anyone else understanding.

Absolutely not, and it pisses me off when people don't break laws and rules just because they are laws and rules.

Speeding: I don't own a car, thus it doesn't occur.
Underage drinking: Not underage. Although, while I was still underage, in the long forgotten days of yore (three months ago and previous) I did partake heavily.
Jaywalking: American college student. Of course I jaywalk.
Bootlegging: Maaaaaaaaaaaaaybe...just a little bit here and there.
I do put on my seat belt when I'm in a car. I don't even think about it, it's just automatic.

I've been to Germany and driven on the Autobahn though, and I must say traveling at 130mph didn't feel any more dangerous than driving 65 in the USA.It's also true that their road tests are much more difficult and strict than ours, and they have a hard emphasis on road etiquette that is non-existent in the USA, as well.
Also, I think those idiots who almost ran you off those cliffs are just that, idiots. It's common sense, whether the speed limit on said road is 100 or 25; you don't go that fast on a road like that. I can't believe they're that oblivious to the danger.

I don't jaywalk or speed, because it is dangerous to others to do otherwise. I don't drink at all, so underage drinking isn't a problem for me. I do occasionally break copyright law.
I'm American, by the way. :p

Anyway, I'd love it if we had Germany's harsh restrictions when it comes to driver's training and testing. It would certainly help matters around here, at least. As for why they're oblivious...I think it may be a case of rebellious teens or something like that.

You clearly don't live in Ontario. What constitutes speeding really changes once you cross the border into the United States.
Canada: "Sir, you realize that you were doing 30 km/hr over the limit right? Now I know you were just trying to pass the driver in the other lane, but if you were only 10 or so over, I wouldn't have pulled you over."
US: "Son, you realize you were doing 2 miles over the limit? Oh, you're from Canada. Well, I know they do things differently up there, but here, on MY highway, you don't cross that limit, y'hear?!"

It really depends. Some speed limits are arbitrary, and have nothing at all to do with a safe speed for that road. Because of this, I think a lot of people begin to get the impression that all speed limits are completely arbitrary and can safely be ignored.
Often jaywalking is not dangerous, but I don't do it to respect the law. Doesn't anyone just plain "respect the law" anymore?

I got a jaywalking ticket years ago when I was in High School. It was actually at a crosswalk but I crossed against a red hand because noone was around for miles. Well, except for a hiding cop that waits for people to cross against the hand. I thought that it was because my friend and I looked like trouble, but the judge guessed the city I got the ticket in right away because he said noone else gave out jaywalking tickets. He actually would of let anybody who knew the origin of the term jaywalking off but noone knew.
I've gotten a speeding ticket, and let off a few times with warnings.
