Are they particular sounds you cannot stand? Not for volume but because the nature of the sound just really really gets you to the point you'd rather eat your own ears than listen to it.

If someone is wearing a nylon coat, or anything else for that matter, and then scratches it - man I hate that sound. It makes my filling ache - I just have to get away from the noise (or shoot them to make them stop - that works too).

What about you?

This always sounds like I'm making it up or exagerating, but that Robert (Richard?) Smith guy from The Cure?

Robert.

This always sounds like I'm making it up or exagerating, but that Robert (Richard?) Smith guy from The Cure? Really does actually make my ear twitch-like it's beyond any consideration over whether or not he's a good singer or the band's any good and more, why the hell does he do that to my ear? It's really uncomfortable.

Any repetitive sound, if carried on for a minute or more, will make me want to go kill the source of that sound. For instance, my father's hearing isn't what it used to be, so he will occasionally leave the blinker on after making a turn. If he doesn't shut it off in the first fifteen seconds, I have to resist the urge to reach across him as he's driving to turn the damn thing off.

Also, nails on chalkboard, as with most "nail or nail-like object across flat surface" noises.

People scratching their nails on chalkboards really get to me. Also the crunching noise when I accidentally hit the side of the garage with my mom's car and ripped off the bumper. Of course that was more because of the fact that I knew I was going to be in deep shit.

Not much really...but there's this one ad on the radio around here for a tattoo parlor that I HAVE to turn off the moment I hear it...

...it truly is an abomination.

Oh, yuck.

And you know that sound you can make by running a wet finger around the rim of a glass? That makes me cringe.

Ooh, i've got one. The sound electrical devices make when they've got a blinking light on standby mode. I can't sleep unless my monitor has no power running to it - it's an extremely irritating, if very quiet high pitched sound that coincides with the standby light blinking on.

I hate clocks that tick audibly. Hate them, hate them, hate them. I internalize rhythm so thoroughly that the damn things make my heart and lungs operate in time with them, and it's freaking uncomfortable.

I am also not a fan of my grandmother's dog's bark. He is a very nice little dog, but he has a horribly piercing, extremely high-pitched bark. (Luckily, all one has to do to get him to stop is to bounce a tennis ball on the floor. He feels compelled to pick it up and carry it around for several minutes, by the end of which time he has inevitably forgotten what he was barking about.)

yeah, i have that too, but only when the device is on.

most repeating noises can annoy me, mostly when i'm trying to concentrate.

also my sister singing can make my teeth hurt very hard.

a friend of mine can't stand the sound of my knitting, apparently the aluminum needles I use scraping against each other makes her teeth hurt

I for one can't stand the sound of marker squeak. (you know when kids are scribbling with markers and they make that squeaking sound)

and also, it bothers my husband when I make balloon sculpture, the squeaking of that makes him crazy.

I'm an Aspie, so I'm especially succeptible to noise. Some I can think of though are nails on chalkboard, loud neighbours, and riding on the bus and listening to someone else's shitty music through their earphones.

I don't really have a sound that does that to me... but I'm sadistic asshole who likes the sound of finger nails on a chalk board or any surface, especially when I'm the one doing the noise!

That noise has the same effect on me; as do the sounds of china, scouring brushes, metal objects sliding against things (especially coins against brock walls) and other such things.
Strangely enough, I always seem to feel it in my teeth, just as you mentioned your filling aching.
Any idea why?

Sometimes when the knife scratches on the plate, it sends shivers down my spine.

I'm fine with other sounds, though.

Sounds that make my teeth hurt are usually the ones that occur when my jaw muscles tighten too much at night and the teeth start screeching.

Maybe the sound of breaking bones and snapping cartilage - then again, I don't hear that too often.

Fingers slipping when they try to slide paper. Even thinking about it is making me cringe.

But then, I can't hear when I have something in my eye, so maybe I'm atypical.
