Letter to the American People

Seeing as I thought many Americans on NSG, and indeed in the whole country, would not have read the open letter from the President of Iran to the US public (http://en.wikisource.org/wiki/Mahmoud_Ahmadinejad%27s_2006_letter_to_the_American_people), that I would make a thread about it, even though it's quite old. Feel free to discuss his statements to your country and the like with an open mind.

His letter to your President might also be good to read. (http://en.wikisource.org/wiki/Mahmoud_Ahmadinejad%27s_letter_to_George_W._Bush_%288_May_2006%29)

Thanks, personally I agree and support alot of the statements and the like put forward by him.

He does have some good points in his letter to Bush, but the one to the American public is far to self-righteous for my taste.

Like most things, I agree on some points and disagree on others.

Funny how he goes on and on about truth, justice and ending coersion... While going on and on about how Iran & the US must make monotheists of all the peoples of the world.

Yes the guy has some good points, but to be blunt; what does it matter when the man doesn't even believe in the ideals he pretends to promote?

Oh yes, I downloaded the two letters when this first came out. Some of the points he makes though whilst relevant and true aren't particularly original and also kind of obvious. He does however, write intelligently and informatively and not at all like the nutjob he is presented as in the media.

If he really was trying to get his message across to the american people, he'd have made an inane "white-cop-meets-black-cop" action movie with explosions, nipples and speedboat chases, instead of writing a letter.
Though this "god" business in every sentence might please the yanks...As long as they don't figure out which "god" he's referring to.

Seeing as he is refering to the God of Abraham the bible bashing portion of the US really should not get too upset by it.

And western pols do?Do what?

If you're suggesting I don't level similar criticisms at other similar narcissistic, powermad cunts in the west, then that'd be a non sequitur on your part.

Maybe he assumed Tony would see the message while he was wiping Bushes ass with it?

Touching, shame he doesn't mean a word of it, and that such moralizing is totally irrelevant in the anarchy of international politics.

And if we did not share a common responsibility to promote and protect freedom and human dignity and integrity; The leader of a nation that kills people for being raped, being gay, or reporting the news in a way the government doesn't like has no right to speak of freedom dignity or integrity. Ahmedinejad's use of those words is blasphemy.

Both greatly value and readily embrace the promotion of human ideals such as compassion, empathy, respect for the rights of human beings, securing justice and equity, and defending the innocent and the weak against oppressors and bullies. How do the actions of Iran with respect to it's dissenters and with respect to women and gays square with the values Ahmedinejad claims to embrace?

Hundreds of thousands of my Iranian compatriots are living amongst you in friendship and peace, and are contributing positively to your society. Our people have been in contact with you over the past many years and have maintained these contacts despite the unnecessary restrictions of US authorities. Many of those Iranian compatriots are refugees who fled when the Islamic Revolution took power. They're not here as ambassadors of the Iranian government, but rather as victims of it.

The US administration does not accept accountability before any organization, institution or council. The US administration has undermined the credibility of international organizations, particularly the United Nations and its Security Council. But, I do not intend to address all the challenges and calamities in this message.Nor does Iran. They're blowing off the IAEA and ignoring the will of the UN. Pot, Kettle, Black.

Is there not a better approach to governance?Yes. But it's not appointing a religious aristocracy who choose what candidates can run or can't run for office and live lives of ease while the people suffer from economic sanctions brought about by the cleric-approved government.

We all condemn terrorism, because its victims are the innocent. Then why support Hezbollah?

What has blind support for the Zionists by the US administration brought for the American people? It is regrettable that for the US administration, the interests of these occupiers supersedes the interests of the American people and of the other nations of the world. Israel does serve American interests just as the Hezbollah initiated war this past summer served Iranian interests while victimizing the Lebanese and Israelis.

I recommend that in a demonstration of respect for the American people and for humanity, the right of Palestinians to live in their own homeland should be recognized so that millions of Palestinian refugees can return to their homes and the future of all of Palestine and its form of government be determined in a referendum. This will benefit everyoneHe's calling for right of return? That would mean the demographic destruction of Israel as a Jewish homeland. It's just another way to wipe Israel off the map.

I stopped reading after this. Some scumbag who is in many ways worse and in most ways no better than Bush shouldn't lecture anyone on subjects like peace, freedom, justice and truth. Ahmedinejad, the Guardian Council, and those who support their policies are enemies of peace, freedom and justice. I'm sick of wading through their bullshit.
