Musical cravings...

Have any of you for some unexplained sudden reason can't get enough of a band/artist? And not even a good band or artist? If so, what or who is it?

I've been on this weird (and ashamed to admit it) Bon Jovi kick for the past week or so. Laugh if you must, but it's true.

Anyone else care to share?

I made a cd for someone about ten days ago, and since then I've been listening almost exclusively to Isis and Converge. Mmmm, crunchy. :)

Welllll.... a few days ago a friend and I had a terrible craving to watch a music video by New Found Glory. @_@

hehe i had a bon jovi craving at uni that lasted a couple of weeks.... slippery when wet rocks!

i tend to listen to music in cravings anyway though... i tend to listen to one band/artist pretty much exclusively for days/weeks at a time, or i'll listen to one band in each genre and listen to genres according to my mood (as in, in a day i'll listen to metal, jazz and blues, but in total only 3 bands cos they're the ones i'm stuck on)
i'm kinda obsessive/addictive in that way, and pretty much never use playlists :p

Really want to listen to Billy Bragg's "The People's Flag", though I am a staunch capitalist/knee-jerk anti communist.

Not so much craving, but I found a really neat electronica group called "The Flavor Foundation".

Hmm. I've been listening to Air - Moon Safari for weeks now, although that's probably because of the fact it's my only chill-out album and I'm handling current stress like glass handles torsion.

I occasionally get totally sick of everything on my iTunes, which makes me run off and steal someone else's music. Other than that, I tend to go through phases (big ska-punk cravings at the minute).

Lol. Converge.

I bought the "Jane Doe" album a few days back. Insane! And impenetrable. I'm trying to get into it but it's a challenge.

Isis rocks.

As for the topic, last night I had this weird irresistible compulsory desire to listen to a bunch of pointless grunge music. Like Bush, Candlebox, Silverchair, that sort of music.

Not really....I don't listen to any music I consider crap. :p

I tend to get in the mood for particular styles, however, and I do sometimes get stuck listening to a few artists of a similar sound for a couple of weeks.

I usually cycle through the bands on my Ipod, listening to several for a few weeks and then moving on to another set. Last month it was The Who, last week it was Pink Floyd and this week I'm listening to Santana.

I frequently get musical cravings. Sometimes my temporary fixations are respectable - for the past couple of weeks, for example, I've been listening to all my Bach pieces repeatedly, before which I spent several days listening to Queen. On the other hand, sometimes said fixations are deeply, deeply pathetic, as when I spent a couple of days listening to Ricky Martin some weeks back. :p

That's a little more expensive, isn't it? £10 is the same price as it is to see 65daysofstatic, so it really is rather ridiculously cheap. Converge still haven't announced any UK dates. They're doing most of the rest of Europe, though. :(

Probably, if you do a direct exchange rate - but for an international band, $40 is pretty damn cheap, since it costs a lot of money for smal and middle sized acts to travel here.

Converge were only $28, however. Even if I have a few drinks that's a cheap night out.

Anyway, Isis'll probably be back, as all of a sudden we're getting a lot of good bands coming out here. I'm seeing Slayer and Mastodon on the 10th of april as well...in early May, it's Sunn0))) and Boris, and in late May it's the Black Keys (who have three shows for some reason). So yeah, I can't complain anyway. Now all I need is 65daysofstatic and Explosions in the Sky - and if I happened to be really lucky, Godspeed You! Black Emperor would start touring again. :)

I missed Mastodon when they played over here (in fact, it was on Tuesday), because I can't afford it. Missed Deftones the next day for the same reason. And I'm not seeing EITS either, as I can't afford that. I hate unemployment.

Deftones were AMAZING! :p Sorry, couldn't resist.

Have you tried applying for CD stores and the like? It's shitty retail work, but better than nothing. That's what i'm going to do anyway, since i'm not having much luck with "real" jobs.
Cameroi
16-03-2007, 12:23
nope. but then i don't listen to clearchannel or other corporate media so this might have something to do with it.

what i do get "cravings for" is the harmoniously exotic. mostly in object and passage way geometry, because that is my 'home' mode of perception, but it does extend into other contexts such as audible contours as well.

explains my love of forests, mazes, caves, ruins, alternative housing, construction methods, even cultures, sub or otherwise, and so on.

so anyway, pure tone electronica, with interesting patterns and harmonies, de-emphasizing atonal rythem structures, these i "crave", much as i do architecture and other objects of a similar, though in the latter case, more organic, nature.

what i'm trying to emphasize here is that for me it isn't about a particular musician or preforming ensemble, but rather the peculiar and unique qualities of the sound itself. personalities are just beyond the pale of how i perceive and relate to my surroundings and the universe beyond them arround me.

i live in a universe of geometry and texture, not one of personalities and coersion. not naturaly, nor that i percieve as healthily at any rate.

I've liked BonJovi's stuff over the years.

The recent thing he did with Sugarland was good, the gal from that band is hot.
