My post count snuck up on me one day. For the longest time I had no idea I was over 3000. It was at that point that I realized that I didn't really give a shit.

What makes you a Generalite, or at least a good one, is relevant posts, or digressions that are at least tangentially related, or complete threadjacks that are at least amusing.

Here's a two-part question for those with more time and posts here than I have: would you consider any troll a Generalite? Are there "legendary" trolls like Jesussaves or Means To An End who get the Generalite label simply because of their ubiquity?

I'd say it's not post count, but time spent here. I'd say it'd take about 3-7 weeks to get the hang of the place, and from then on it's just getting to know people more and bitching about the timewarps, trolls, and the same threads coming up again and again.

I've been through so many cycles of it I've lost count. That's what happens when you get upwards of 20K I guess.

Man, I've been here since twenty-aught-three, and I'm still somewhat of an outsider. I think part of the problem may be that my name is almost impossible to pronounce or spell correctly - if I had a snappier name I'd probably be more memorable.

I recently just piqued over 2000, which pleased me. I didn't celebrate the big two-oh-oh-oh, but I did spot my 1999th post (and I partied approprately, Prince fans ;)!).

Besides, I don't think post-count is the contributing factor. I've lost count of the number of times I've seen newbs leapfrog me into forum royalty almost overnight.

I feel myself a bit of a generalite simply because i have never actually used anything but the general forum. Not got that high a post count tho.

You're a generalite when you say you are.

I'd say it's not about postcount, or really when you think your a generalite, but rather it's when the other generalites call you a generalite. You can wear the label once another generalite has used the term to refer to you. Basically, the people who are, know it; for the others, it doesn't matter what your postcount is, it ain't happening.

You don't need a certain number of posts or anything like that. I know I'm a Generalite, because out of my 9000+ posts, I'd say about 9000 of them have been in this forum.

If you know you're a Generalite, you're a Generalite. If you consider yourself a Generalite, you're probably a Generalite. If this thread is the first time you've heard the term...then run! Run before we catch you too!!!

It's not about post-count, It's about recognition. I am a Generlite, because I am recognized as such by the others. In my case, it is because I have been here almost four years now, and in that time I have posted almost exclusively here in General. My postcount only amounts to 10K. Then again, some are immediatley considered Generalites (Pancake comes to mind). It all just comes back to recognition.

And as for what it takes to be a generalite... I think it's just a matter of posting often enough to be noticed. Some folks'll be noticed right away for their excellent debate, or humour, or excellent debate humour and be 'recognized'. Others will post sporadically and may never be noticed by the few who come and go over three month periods.

(And yes, I said "folks'll". Just for fun.)

as a general rule (ahaha the irony) i'd agree with that. no set limit on postcount, but it does have a bearing (generally speaking) on how long someone's been here or how involved they are.

Nearly all of the non-NS posters have avatars or a customised name instead of eg. Muppet Owner. I guess that'd be one way of working it out.

I'd say it's not post count, but time spent here. I'd say it'd take about 3-7 weeks to get the hang of the place, and from then on it's just getting to know people more and bitching about the timewarps, trolls, and the same threads coming up again and again.

They're apparently caused by the fact that jolt has three different servers the clocks of which are out of sync. So depending on which server you use to post, the timestamp of your post will be varying degrees ahead or behind actual time and the post will be sorted into the thread accordingly.

Now why nobody has managed to adjust the damn clocks in the last couple months is anyone's guess. :rolleyes:

My g/f pretty much consumes all my time now. I post on occasion and lurk a bit. I've seen a few randoms on the street that remind me of people. Saw a girl who looked like Rameria and a guy who looked like PM today (must be a sign of missing NSG):cool:

Combine that idea with the fact that most of you guys are just awesome incarnate, and can be talked to about anything, it can be argued that you guys become what can be considered the gods of the forum. I usually just use "Generalite" to mean "person who posts in the General forum," in which case the answer would logically be 1.

Of course, if you're asking how many posts one needs before being generally known/appreciated/considered memorable/etc. by other members of the forum, I can't really tell you that, save to say that it's probably a larger number than 2,185. :p

I dunno, I've been listed as a Generalite before, and I'm only on about 600. YMMV
