US public school teacher's advice sought

Once again the subject of my returning to the US has bubbled up to the surface (those who know me may remember previous similar topics.)

This time it seems to be the most serious - I've been getting more and more unhappy with my current employer (as certain previous threads over the last few years may have indicateds) and there's actually a very serious chance I may return ti the US in the next year or so.

I'd likely be looking for some sort of elementary ed. position in the midwest (that's the level I want to teach and I'd like to be near my family in Iowa).

So, who's a teacher back home in the US and what can you tell me about it?

Katganistan is a teacher in the Big Apple, I believe. I have a feeling that it could be high school, but I'm not sure.

Yep, I knew that. ;) I was hoping for a wider net (otherwise I'd have simply TGed Kat. ;))

I have the degrees and a buttload of hours in the public school system before I came to Japan for JET, but I was secondary ed (Jr high, high school).

Did you have a particular question?

I'm thinking Chicago or Minneapolis at the moment, but open to other places (close being relative).
