Too bad Minnesota doesn't have a death penalty

Because whoever did this, needs to die. Badly.

Sounds like a threat of murder to me, and I am all for any charge a better legal mind can drum up - throw the book at this asshole.

Even if Minnesota did have the death penalty, which from your title I assume it doesn't, the perpetrator in this instance would not be put to death, despite the utter barbarity and vileness of the act.

Needless to say, the person who did this should get put away. For quite a long time. That's truly a cruel, vicious thing to do. Poor dog. Poor girl. :(

Agreed, whoever did this is a real sonuvabitch and it would be better for the society to put him in the gaol (not death penalty anyway).
And I bet it is a person that both lives in the poor girl's neighbourhood and knows her quite good.

A thing puzzled me:
Homicide investigators are looking into the case because of the "implied" terroristic threat, St. Paul Police Sgt. Jim Gray said.
Terrorism? Usually terrorism is meant to scare many people, not just one. Threatening, cruelty to animals, moral and physical damages... but terrorism?

That and the title for this thread are the stupidest things I've read today, and I've had time to peruse perezhilton.

That's cruel and evil, but TERRORISM? wtf?

Somebody does not like that girl, big time. She has a scary ass enemy who is seriously sick, twisted and dangerous. It implies that she has had a troubled past in the story, that is where they need to be looking, not under beds for terrorists.

Whoever did that is one sick fuck!

He hasn't done anything that'd trigger the death penalty YET, but I'd guess that it's likely to happen in the future, if they don't catch this sicko and throw the book at him while they've got the chance!

Terrorism? Usually terrorism is meant to scare many people, not just one. Threatening, cruelty to animals, moral and physical damages... but terrorism? It was a "terroristic threat," not "terrorism."

A "terroristic threat" is just the legalistic term for any threat meant to put an extreme scare into someone.

Seriously? That's very strange, and quite disturbing all by itself. Has this term always been in use, or is it a recent innovation?

Whoever did this better pray they don't come across me because I will do things to this person that'll make watching the second Matrix seem fantastic.

I'm so fucking disgusted right now I'm tempted to go up and down the street beating up every human I come across.

It was probably a kid or group of kids from her school who thought it would be funny to "mess up the lame emo girl who needs a therapy dog".

But whoever it was needs to be punished within the full extent of the law. Not just becuase of what it did to the dog but also for what it must have done to the poor girl.

Whoa, that's pretty extreme. Might be unconstitutional.

Seriously though, how cruel of a person do you have to be to kill someone's therapy dog, and then, as if killing an innocent and beloved pet wasn't enough, traumatize the person further by sending them a head like that. I just can't fathom it. The act is just too savage for words. And of course, since the dog was a therapy dog, presumably he was well behaved and generally possessed of a pleasant, affectionate demeanor. I just can't understand why someone would do this.

Then we toss this guy off the bridge.
You obviously miss the point. The dog's head was cut off then sent to her in a box. That's the work of a sociopath to begin with.

I mean you wouldn't be the first one to beat up random people over a story. I bet that has happened quite many times. One case I remember was a man who read that the company he worked for would cut all jobs in his country.

I don't uderstand it either but hey, as you've already noticed, I just don't understand that much. I don't understand why a man would throw acid on his girlfriend's face or why a man would cut all muscles between woman's legs (so that she can't hold shit anymore). I don't understand why a wife would torture her husband with a hammer or why a husband and father of three burned his family alive. We read horrible news every single day and in this case the only dead one was a dog. I'm sorry but I get more upset about 50 killed civilians than about a teenage girl.
And Helioterra, you really have missed the point.

It wasn't just her pet dog (although that would be terrible in itself). It was a therapy dog. I'm not sure what that entails, but from the story it sounds like it was the best (only, perhaps) friend of a girl who'd been suffering from some mental illness.

Someone takes her best friend, kills him, decapitates him, wraps the head up so it's nice and pretty in a box, and then posts it back to her.

It would be pretty horrific if someone did that to your wife/girlfriend/whatever, wouldn't it? It's the same here. It wasn't "a dog".

Oh, I do get that. And believe me, I also think that's incredibly sick. I wrote "just a dog" because in the end (and imo) the victim in this case is the girl and she's devastated but otherwise just fine.

So the dog's life meant nothing?

My animals are as close as family to me, and had the same been done well...Imagine someone sends your brother's head to you in a box.

The crime was against the girl, not against the dog. In this perspect the dog is just a dog. If this sick person would have used her grandmother to cause her pain the crime would have been much worse, don't you think?

crimes like this should be taken seriously and the penaltys should be on a par with those of crimes against human beings, there was a case in the uk a couple of years ago where a man arguing with his wife cut the head off her beloved pet parrot with a bread knife right in front of her. he only got a fine but crimes like this are indicative of violent personalities who at a push could easily move from animal cruelty to human torture or murder.

As regards to a death penalty though, i still feel that it is a barbaric missuse of a legal system and to make murderes out of jailers is clearly a double standard, society can never truly progress while a death penalty still looms in 70% of countries on Earth.

I (partly) agree with Helioterra. Whilst the person who did this is obviously a disgusting... thing... and should be locked up for a long time (although no, I wouldn't lose an awful lot of sleep if he fell off a bridge), I'd save more vitriol for those who kill people. It's not like they're particularly hard to find.
