What would you do for absolute power?
Say the absolute evil offered you the absolute power after the absolute good found you guilty for the worst crime ever imaginable (in your opinion).
What would you be willing to offer for this?(It’s the sell your soul type thing)

Meh. I don't care for absolute power, don't believe in absolute good and don't believe in absolute evil either.
Right now, I care for my sofa, my fiancee, a glass of prosecco and some cheese.

You're asking, if I had the option of giving something up for absolute power, would I do so? And how far would I be willing to go? Assuming immortality was thrown in with the package, I'd be willing to sell my soul for it.

I would give up anything and everything. Then I just bring it back when i become omnipotent.
I already have absolute power, why would I give anything for it?

But wouldn't immortality start so suck several millenia down the road when the universe starts dying of entropy?

Absolute Evil: Hey. So er... Would you like Absolute Power?
me: Sure, why not?
Absolute Evil: One catch. I'm gonna need your soul.
me: *thinks* Ok, I'm cool with that. *gives soul*
Absolute Evil: *gives Absolute Power* haha, foolish mortal! Now you will burn for etern...
me: *takes back soul*
Absolute Evil: ...oh. I... I didn't think of that.

well then just use the Absolute Power to give yourself the self-restraint to wield it well :)
I can't imagine why I would ever want absolute power.

I wouldnt want absolute power. There would be nothing more to gain. It would be like cheating in a game: you do all kinds of dumb stuff, but get bored quite quickly.
The good thing about power is getting it. If you have all the power you need, it becomes meaningless.

It's easy to have absolute power. I assume you mean the absolute value of power, in which case both the rate of energy loss and energy gain will result in the same absolute value of power.

I wouldn't accept.
I have nothing against power, but the absolute evil is the absolute evil for a reason. Sooner or later, it will get you.
They say that absolute power corrupts absolutely but corruption is synonymous with impurity and absolute with purity. How then can someone be purely impure?

Anything at all.
Should my actions have negative consequences (defined as consequences I don't like), I can simply use my absolute power to undo those consequences.
It's called absolute power for a reason.

In the same line of thought, what about simply having x ^ |n| ? That's definitely an absolute power :D

Of course, I imagine it wouldn't be retroactive (no absolute evil would be dumb enough to allow you to do that), so anything you had to do to achieve it would stick with you forever.

Then it isn't absolute power. You've just fundamentally changed the nature of the question.
All absolute power would do is to encourage others to take that power away from you. What reasonable person wants to have that kind of hassle?

i wouldn't want absolute power, or even much power.
i'd just like a little corner of the planet where i can be left alone in peace... not much power there :)
my question in reply would be "what is the power of power if you can't do the positive good you'd like to with it? unless you could would it really be YOUR power at all, and what would be the point of it?"
and if it costs more harm to aquire then the good you might be able to do with it once you do, you're still left with the same negative net gain.
this is one of those things that has always puzzled me about humans, that i was born into this planet to study and try and decipher before the rest of the universe will have to destroy it for their own self protection.
it is a most peculiar kind of blindness mercifuly unusual in the rest of this universe.

I'd do anything. Then I'd redeem myself and destroy absolutes absolutely.
I don't want to rule anything, I just want to live my own life free of threat to myself and the people I care about. Such a thing absolutely isn't possible in a world of absolutes.
Which is the cool thing about absolute power, you can absolutely stop them from doing it and not have to worry about it any more.
But when one has absolute power it means that others will have no problem trying to take that power away from you and give it to themselves. You will always be worrying about assassination and coup attempts. The ulcers these dictators must get...

smart move.
I'd negotiate some sort of deferred payment from evil, while secretly atoning for my sins. After I get redemption, I use my power to backstab evil, then usher in my reign of goodwill, justice, and compassion.
I'd start by jacking up the budget for scientific research to immense proportions.

If they can take it from you then it's not absolute. And if you can be assassinated or get ulcers, then it's not absolute. Remember, we are talking about absolute power here: being able to do anything you can think of. You can even share it so that everyone will have absolute power.

Er, there won't be any huge effects from entropy for about another fifteen billion years.
It's a bit of a silly question. If you have absolute power you can take back whatever you gave for it. If you can't, you wouldn't have absolute power.
I wouldn't trust evil to do me any such favours though.

I see. Clearly I was thinking too small. True absolute power. Well then certainly it will be an excellent thing to have. My first act shall be to exile all religious nutbags. For the good of us all.
