A single Battlestar, doesn't even have to be Galactica, can kick Firefly's ass and keep a straight face while doing it.

Uh, Galactica, I mean it has what a crew of a couple hundred while Firefly has a crew of like seven.

Oh, ok, I wasn't sure what you meant by the two solar systems. In that case, yeah, Firefly, Colonial marines are too used to follow the rules.
As much as I'd like to say Firefly as I prefer it to BSG I'd have to go with BSG. The opening scene in "The Train Job" illustrated why the Inpedents lost. A numerically superior opposition. Firefly has Mal, Zoe, and Jayne for professional fighters (I don't count River because R. Tam is crazy and therefore unreliable). Galactica is a bigger ship with a bigger crew and more fighters.
Now if it were just the main characters of the two shows then I'd go with Firefly.
