no one would mind, except that this happened at the high profile israel-el salvador ceasefire agreement signing. now peace in our times looks like an increasingly unlikely pipedream.

Oh, he may do whatever he likes in his private life - the problem is that this silly person made his private life public when he wandered drunkenly around the streets in bondage gear. Not exactly the ideal way for an ambassador to behave.

But woah! What a way to end your career! :p

It's a preemptive cease-fire.

Well, an Ambassador does represent his country and his actions might be considered a little "outside the box" by many people. The result is he could bring embarrassment to his county.

My only thought is, 'Why do they care what he does in his private life?'.

It sets up a certain image of Israel that stupid people might believe.

Look at what stereotypes the US has given to people that they don't like.

Mexicans: Thieves, poverty, stupid, drugs, crime, sex
Irish (back in the huge Irish immigration days): Drunk, stupid, poor, bars, fights, lots and lots of whiskey
Blacks (mostly in post Civil War era, but a few still exist today): Stupid, poor, fights, drugs, property (even when not slaves), not-as-good-as-whites, thieves, murderers, anarchists (slave rebellions, civil rights protestors), trouble makers
Soviets: Self-explanatory

I'm not saying that everyone bought these stereptypes, but through media and pop culture, images like that can be eventually accepted. Sometimes, of course, it's not the government that's doing it (at least not publicly) but individuals with some power. So an Isrealite politician doing these things won't exactly be fantastic for the International image of Israel.

So an Israelite politician doing these things ...An Israeli is not an Israelite.

And don't forget Muslims, Arabs, French, Canadians, Germans, Italians, Chines, Iranians, etc. in your little list.

...as happened last year when the Israeli ambassador to Australia said Israel and Australia were white sisters amid the yellow race of Asia. Not a diplomatically correct statement :p

LG would make a better diplomat than these 2nd rate clowns. At least he'd make his hosts laugh and let down their guard before BAM, he gets them sign a treaty grossly in his favor.

These jokers are just a big embarrassment.

This is the problem that results when politicians hand out the job as a political favor to those who backed them.

Edit: Umm... that might be a little too scene related for most people to get

The Israel ambassador was just showing his racism.

Most Arabs and Most Jews are Semites.

I say it makes sense that they recalled him because otherwise because there was no way the Salvadorean side could sit across the table from him and not snicker incessantly.

Reading the report all sorts of questions jump to mind -

Why were police inside the Israeli compound?
Whose police?

From the reports there are no mentions of anyone else. Was this a solo sado masicistic situation? or had he been left gagged and bound by his Parrtners?

Or was this an attempt an attempt by the USA to capture another middle - eastern terrorist which went wrong?

Was his bondage gear orange?:)

Or the Salvadorean side has a woman that now knows how to make him give in to El Salvador in several issues: "Send us some more help, SLAVE!!!".

My only thought is, 'Why do they care what he does in his private life?'.

When you're outside your house, you're not in your private life anymore.
When you're also a diplomat, you have to keep certain social standards, which, by the way, include not being found naked and gagged on the streets or wherever.

I guess this guy is the stupidest ambassador around. Oh, and the shortest-lasting also.

No.
The Israel ambassador was just showing his racism.
Most Arabs and Most Jews are Semites. So the ambassador wanted and admitted to be Indo-European ('white') instead of Semitic ('brown'). But then he could no longer call others anti-Semites if they told him what a complete jerk he is...
