So yeah while I'm doing a politics essay on wheter Bush is the worst President since Nixon (not my opnions, just the title) this question popped into my head. Is a great leader someone who does something to bring quick success to their people or is a great leader someone who sets out to change things ,which at the time are viewed as wrong, to bring long term success or is it a mix? Does the leader need charisma or is it more abot what he does, not how he acts?

My opinion is that a leader is someone who tries to bring success to their people over both a short and long term time and doesn't need charism, though it helps, as long as they do the right thing overall. SO NS what is your opnion?

Someone who has the balls to do what is right in the long term - it's not always apparent that he's right to do so until time has passed.

Someone who has core principles, and sticks to them, even if people say he's fucking wrong and should change his mind when everyone else does.

Someone who has foresight and the vision to correctly accomplish the first item above.

Someone who leads by example.

These above are pretty good.

A leader is someone who is respected for his qualities and his competence.

A leader has a morality similar to those following.

A leader believes in his own competence and skills, but knows how to take council and opinions.

A leader acts when needed, obey when impossible to act otherwise, and know how to create oportunities.

Also, a leader must have similar goes to those following.

Some people see things as they are and ask "Why?", I dream things that never were and ask "Why not?" Shaw---Robert Kennedy

It's been since 1968 that the US had a real leader. One that had a vision of an ideal in the future and asked the people to follow him to that better vision. Since 1968 we have had only leaders that see things as they are and stumble along into the future with now idea what an ideal world looks like, so they have no idea which direction to start walking. And they have no idea how to ask the people to follow them.

O know some will say you can never reach an ideal. But you always fall short of your goal. The higher you aim the higher you will land. So if you shoot for a 10 and miss, you get an 8. If you shoot for an 8 you'll get a 6. If you actually reach a goal, think how much higher you would be if you aimed a little further out of reach. A nation needs to aim as high as possible. A leader needs to be able to see and communicate an ideal goal.

A great leader is one who paradoxically enthralls the collective with their radiant individuality. Great leaders bestride the world stage like giants. Great leaders prove that individuals, can make their voice heard in the evergrowing throng of humanity.

A great leader need not be perfect. In fact, most are very flawed. Their humanity is what makes them great.

No, not British territory. We recognize Queen Elizabeth II as 'Queen of Canada'. We symbollically choose a person to represent the Queen as governor general. Canada is NOT british territory.

A great leader is someone who thinks of the next generation, not the next election. Someone who puts the nation first and his personal preferences second. Someone who does not cater to special interests, and who refuses to blindly succumb to ideology. Someone whose integrity cannot be bought or compromised. In other words, someone that no politician could ever hope to be.
