Government Says FBI Violated Privacy

The FBI is guilty of "serious misuse" of the power to secretly obtain private information under the Patriot Act, a government audit said Friday.

The Justice Department's inspector general looked at the FBI's use of national security letters, in which agents demand personal and business information about individuals -- such as financial, phone, and Internet records -- without court orders.

The audit found the letters were issued without proper authority, cited incorrect statutes or obtained information they weren't supposed to.

But of course there have been no reports of any misconduct under the Patriot Act, our government is honest, the only people who have something to fear are guilty, and judicial oversight is just a cumbersome unecessary burden because the police never go after the wrong people, after all, if they were innocent, the police wouldn't be going after them would they?

I tell ya what. Shit is getting whacky around these parts. I don't know what to think or even believe anymore. The fact that we Americans are just letting this kinda stuff happen is just mind-boggling. It was so much easier to revolt in the old days. I guess we're just going to have to sit and take it, at least until the next putz gets voted into office.

What? I thought this was the anti gun controls biggest argument for keeping guns? That you need them to rebel against a orwellian-esque government. Hurry up and get rebelling!

FBI don't know the concept of what privacy is! It's something that exists unless they want something, then it does not.

They're too busy felating this particular government for the guns in the first place...

Did anyone hear about this violence in the middle east?

Is that supposed to be a catch all excuse to sacrifice our liberties? Certainly undermines the notion that our soldiers are fighting for our freedoms.

No. It's like saying something really obvious to point out that this story is really obvious and no one should be surprised by it. Saying "The FBI Violated Privacy" is on about the same level as "There's violence in the mideast"

Probably wanted to go with 'sky is blue' on that one since people do use the war as an excuse for that.

And just because we knew that was the case is not an excuse to become complacent with it.
