I'm surprised that Mueller actually 'fessed up, rather than simply denying everything to the bloody end. Not quite as schocked as I would be were someone to attach a cell phone battery to my testes, but quite shocked nonetheless.

This is obviously something that won't surprise anyone not that it really matters. I have zero confidence that anything will change after all. Who can have this kind of power and actually use it responsibly?

Of course, many of us were saying exactly that when the PatAct was first proposed, and again when up for renewal. Nobody listened :headbang:

Well none of our learned elected officials did at any rate. Many of us average people certainly realized the implications. But politicos don't want to look weak so they run with the fearmongering or fearful herds. Whichever suits them best.

I'll say what I said in my own thread (didn't see this one).

But of course there have been no reports of any misconduct under the Patriot Act, our government is honest, the only people who have something to fear are guilty, and judicial oversight is just a cumbersome unecessary burden because the police never go after the wrong people, after all, if they were innocent, the police wouldn't be going after them would they?

Troops is one of my favorite shorts. "All suspects are guilty otherwise they woudn't be suspects would they?"

“To say that I am concerned about what has been revealed in this report would be an enormous understatement,” Gonzales said in remarks prepared for delivery to the privacy officials. “Failure to adequately protect information privacy is a failure to do our jobs.”

This gets more interesting if you question whose information privacy Gonzalez was referring to. If it was the FBI's information privacy that he says was violated by having their abuses revealed, that seems more in keeping with his style.

That guy is friggin built like a linebacker! Why don't the law enforcement agents in my district look like that? Most of them are just harried, middle-aged civil servants who look like they haven't slept since the Ford administration and have no idea where their government-issued badges and firearms are at the moment. I'd wager 500 dollars that my FBI agents couldn't lift a gun and hold their badge up and still have that cool, sexy smirk on their faces. I mean, seriously!
