Today is International Womyn's Day. You know, it's a day we commemorate all the struggles that women have had to go through to be recognized as a people, and not property.
i just saw a picture of a russian woman swimming in a frozen river for womyn's day. not sure what it was supposed to signify, but at least she got some flowers out of it. i have to confess i didn't know there was an international womyn's day today. guess i'm a pretty useless WICH member.

By spelling it "womyn" they're implying they're not people, so they're hardly furthering their point. Thank you for the unfair labor you still go through for us, like the less fun part of reproduction. Thank you for keeping our lives in order, so that we won't wallow in our own filth, watching TV until morning and living on nothing but potato chips and boogers. Lord knows a good woman is so fine!
Lovely to look at, so sweet and kind -
A better companion you just won't find
Than a sweet, sweet woman with love on her mind.
She's fun in the morning, and fun in the day
She's fun at night for a roll in the hay.
Don't care what you think, don't care what you say –
I'll spend time with my woman whenever I may.
I've got a good woman – and what's not to love?
I swear she's an angel from heaven above.
Stronger than iron, soft as a dove
Fit her life to mine like a hand to a glove.
btw, did you keep leftovers from that roasted turkey? are they still good? can you make me a sandwich when I get home? and start some whites?

I have seen the word "pwn" elsewhere on the Internet, but will somebody PLEASE tell me what it means?!
What do you mean? I thought everyone spelt it "womyn"
No, everybody does NOT spell it "womyn", thank God. Only womEn (and no, I don't mean "womYn") who are so idiotic and anti-male as to be obsessed with removing every reference to men, maleness, and masculinity from everything, only THEY MIS-spell it "womyn". The correct spelling is "women", and if anybody out there doesn't like it, it's THEIR problem, not mine.
If you spell it "womyn" you deserve to be shot in the eye with something powerful. The word "man" has etymological roots as meaning "person" in the context of "woman". I agree wholeheartedly, except that I don't believe they're implying that they're not human, i.e. that they're less than human. I believe they're trying to say that they are a completely different species from men.
But the TRUTH is that men and women are different genders of the SAME species, and the name of that species is "MAN".
It should be obvious to anyone.
That is, anyone except a college-educated, "man"-hating feminist obsessed with obsessed with removing men, maleness, masculinity, and any and every reference to any of the above, from our society, culture, and vocabulary.

I'm not agreeing with their aims. Just stating what they are. The type who wants to lower standards on getting into the military, becoming a firefighter etc., just so there could be higher amounts of women in these jobs. Nevermind that it puts people at risk when they don't have the strength to do what the men can do, oh no, that doesn't matter at all. Getting women into "mens" professions by any means necessary is their only concern. And of course just simply despising men, also a common trait.
Hardly something I would ever agree with. Equality yes, rolling back standards, no.

It's an illusion that we are completelly equal in the western world. Look at the wages, women make less money for the same amount of labour as men. Women often stay home and do housework because in some countries it is tradition that the men supports the family while the women take care of the kids. When women are working, which is very common theese days thankfully, they still have do work much harder because because they have a job and they do much more housework than men do. So they do twice the work for the same money which makes them more stressed. And do we even have to speak about all beauty ideals that women from small ages are beeing shown? Look at thoses stupid dolls Bratz for example, you give them to a little girl and they will think that women are supposed to look like that to satisfy their men.
We have come a long way in the struggle for womens rights, but there's still a long way to go and it's an illusion that we are equal, because we aren't. The struggle for equality of all sorts needs to go on!

It's an illusion that we are completelly equal in the western world. Look at the wages, women make less money for the same amount of labour as men.
Wrong and a lie that I wish feminism would stop pedelling. In the vast majority of the western world there is equal pay legislation. Which means that if a women is doing the same job as a man she is entitled to the same pay as a man. So if there is a male data collection supervisor working for company A for 9 hours a day and a female data collection supervisor working for company A for 9 hours a day, they will both be paid the same ammount of money. While it is legitimate to suggest that women may not be advancing as much as men that is something that will change with time, not by force.
Women often stay home and do housework because in some countries it is tradition that the men supports the family while the women take care of the kids. When women are working, which is very common theese days thankfully, they still have do work much harder because because they have a job and they do much more housework than men do. So they do twice the work for the same money which makes them more stressed.
While domestic division of labour may be unbalenced, you cannot co-ordinate something like the feminisim of old to 'fight' that. That is something individual families must do and must change over time. Its not something for an outside belief system to be forcing in the way you are suggesting
And do we even have to speak about all beauty ideals that women from small ages are beeing shown? Look at thoses stupid dolls Bratz for example, you give them to a little girl and they will think that women are supposed to look like that to satisfy their men
I agree with you, the socialisation of girls is far too image consious, but again, this will not change from outside pressure on the media itself alone, but also from people ignoring it at the source.
We have come a long way in the struggle for womens rights, but there's still a long way to go and it's an illusion that we are equal, because we aren't. The struggle for equality of all sorts needs to go on!
The 'struggle' as you put it, is over in the classic sense. Feminisim has won the war against the law. Women are now legally equal. What you are talking about is social equality, which is something very different and much more complicated, and something that cannot be forced to change. Women shouting and complaining about it in the 'struggle' fashion that you suggest is only going to breed contempt for any movement. Social change does not come about through force. The civil rights movement did not end racisim in America. Nor is racism gone now. However racisim is far less strong now than it was because time has eroded it, not because people have been shouting at people and campaigning against it, but because the idea that all peoples are equal regardless of coulor has seeped in and is slowly erroding the opposing view. Women complaining at unequal domestic division of labour will not create the end to the inequality that you seek. It will happen, with time, not with force.
I thought women already had a day. Labor day.
BTW, where's my dinner?

Today is International Womyn's Day. You know, it's a day we commemorate all the struggles that women have had to go through to be recognized as a people, and not property.
That was yesterday, quit living in the past. ;)

Well then the word shouldn't be womyn. It should be woperoffspring (because the word "person" has the word "son" in it.)
*snip for length*
Here's what I love:
Dude like Neo Sanderstead toddles into the thread and happily announces that feminism's work is done, and we should all just shut up about it already. (The not-so-veiled threat being that if we don't shut up, the menfolk will take away our rights again, and that will show us.)
He then proceeds to make a lengthy post that clearly and explicitly demonstrates exactly why feminism is absolutely NOT done, why equality has NOT been achieved, and why further discussion and education is STILL desperately needed.
Thank you, Neo Sanderstead, for doing my work for me. I'm a feminist, you see, but I'm also a very lazy person. I really appreciate how you have so neatly summed up the reasons why we need to be even louder and prouder in asserting feminist principles, and why we need to work even harder at building a world where real equality exists.
When's International men's day?
Hehehehe.
Forgive me, but this makes me think of when I was 6 years old, and I asked my mom,
"Mom, how come there is a Mother's Day and a Father's Day, but there's no Children's Day?"
She fixed me with her eye and said, "Kid, every day is Children's Day."
Sorry dudes, but there's one downside to holding the vast majority of political, financial, and social power, and that is that you aren't going to get to enjoy a completely obscure and generally ignored nominal holiday. I know, I know, this is clearly oppression and men are obviously facing a kind of discrimination that dwarfs anything women have ever had to endure. But I know you manly folks will be able to suck it up.

But what is "hentai"?Porn manga, anime and games. (a more proper term would be H-<anime/games/etc.>, but hentai has become quite a well-rooted term outside Japan)
don't ask, and for God's sake don't google it.......I made that mistake once......horrible.Hardly a good way to be introduced to it, I'd guess.
Just look a bit harder, though, and I'm sure you will find some interesting material.;) There is a very wide range of different kinds of it.
There are plenty of review sites that you could browse without having to worry about being further scarred.

Holidays that only persisted as they were used as propaganda tools in the Soviet bloc. Delightful.
I mean, not to knock women. I love 'em. I think women's lib is a rather good thing, feminism ain't all that bad. But redo the day, get another one, or maybe just pick up a month, or maybe just surpass us unruly men.

read some disturbing stuff in the newspaper though, i really didn't expect that things were still that bad for women these days.

Nein! Your lyrics don't fit the tune, the proper line is: "Hitler had only one big ball."

We commemorate all the struggles that Spartans had to go through to have Thesbians utterly ignored for the rest of eternity.

it is unfortunate that all men are such strong and manly types that they totally avoid whining about these sorts of horrific oppressions they face on a yearly basis. if we don't start now, how shall we overcome, someday?

Wrong and a lie that I wish feminism would stop pedelling. In the vast majority of the western world there is equal pay legislation. Which means that if a women is doing the same job as a man she is entitled to the same pay as a man. So if there is a male data collection supervisor working for company A for 9 hours a day and a female data collection supervisor working for company A for 9 hours a day, they will both be paid the same ammount of money. While it is legitimate to suggest that women may not be advancing as much as men that is something that will change with time, not by force.
The fact that women aren't advancing as much as men might be a very important factor in explaining why women generally have lower wages than men. But if women have a harder time advancing than men, aren't they payed less amount of money for the same amount of labour? The most important question here is why do women have a harder time advancing than men?
I have to agree with you here. While the division of house work might be unfair I don't see how a legislation against it would meke anything better. I strongly believe that the more secular a country is, the division of housework between women and men will be more balanced because the role of the "traditional family", that is a man working while the woman is taking care of the house and the kids, will fade away.

The struggle is over in out part of the world at least but the social differences remain. And I say it again, the more religion is loosing it's role the more equal we will be.
EDIT: What am I doing wrong, why can't I qoute you more than once?
Oh joy. Yay. Calling it "womyn's day" is like calling black history month "black power month". They both imply severe radicalism.

Maybe because you've won. What you just said is accepted. Don't force it further or actually you'll push it back. Let it happen with time
No, the fight is only beginning. Being recognized as a person was just the first step, now its on to tearing down ridiculous gender roles and ensuring true equality.
BTW, i'm a man.
Just so you know. It's not a contradiction to be strongly feminist and a man.

Sorry; not acceptable. I don't object to equality, but giving women MORE civil rights and privileges than men have is unacceptable to me, just as unacceptable as treating women like "property", "possessions", or otherwise less than human.
Psst! *whispers* Guess what! No one in the feminist movement is advocating that!

I probably should prepare for more slapping. Fair enough, I guess...
