I posted this to the the thread about the Church's policy on suicide, but I really think it deserves a thread and comments all on it's own. What kind of low-life does this?

Well, he found the ultimate way to totally destroy somebody's emotions... There's not a single thing that can be done about it. Not one thing.

I see suicide in that woman's future.

Disgusting. Let that bastard burn in whatever hell he ends up in or rot in oblivion for eternity.

I don't normally say this...but I hope that man burns in hell for what he did.

A seriously mentally disturbed one. You think someone who does that has control over his actions

Sometimes they do, but I don't think we'll ever honestly know.

Well, jeez, I mean, that was his little girl, how can someone bring themselves to do that? To their own flesh and blood?

The poor mother...talk about complete and utter devastation...I do dearly hope that she gets as much help as she needs, but one can guess that she won't.

As for the father...lets just say I'm glad he'll never have the chance to have any more children. It's disgusting that he had to take one with him though.

This reminds me of incident that happened recently here in Toronto, a woman by the name of Andrea Johnson had taken her life and her child's life. She had the child with her when she went to an overpass that overlooked the 401, Canada's busiest and widest highway. She jumped off the Morningside overpass onto the 401, killing her and the child.

I think clearly this father was mentally ill.

People who are mentally ill are just that--ill. They can't reason or judge the same way you or I do. Will the guy rot in hell? Only if he was conscious of what he was doing.

Otherwise, I pity him as much as the child... both victims of mental illness.

I really hope there is a hell for bastards like this. I believe you have the right to end your life whenever you want, but ending a child's life is in excusable. Especially if it's some sort of wierd vengance BS.

What a dickhead. Still, one must wonder what the wife did to piss him off that badly.

Letting the bastard off the hook, eh? Assuming that he is mentally ill (as if that's an excuse) instead of just being a bastard. Really now, lets pity this poor man who made this decision of poor judgment. That's all it is, right? I suppose you will come up with an excuse for any criminal won't you?

I'm sorry, in the circumstances, I just can't agree with that. He was on the phone with the mother right before the crash telling her she wasn't getting her daughter back. That says to me he knew exactly what he was doing. Besides, mentally ill or no, I can't find any pity or sorrow in me for someone that can do something like that. I have two kids of my own, and as a mother, something like that would be completly indescribable, and unsurvivable. That SOB basically killed three people that day, and that's exactly what he had in mind when he did it.

I don't think people like that really need that much of a reason, honestly.

It's quite possible to be both mentally ill and also fully cognizant of, and therefore responsible for, the consequences of one's actions. I'd say this guy fits the bill. So yeah, he wasn't right in the head, but he knew what he was doing, knew that it was wrong, and did it anyway.

If you believe the Catholic Church's doctrine on suicide, this guy already is burning in Hell, so you need not worry on that score. My own concept of the afterlife is a bit more subtle, but nevertheless it has something analagous to Hell and this guy is effectively in it.

Excuse me? There is no good reason to terrify and kill a child just because you're angry with your ex. He was selfish and cowardly and if he had killed himself it would have been no loss, but he killed his own child because he was a stupid, cowardly, selfish, vindictive, evil monster. Whatever his wife did or didn't do, it was not a justification for being pure evil.
