He sees you...

I was just browsing Google Earth and found something pretty surprising...

Boot it up (or use Google Maps (http://maps.google.com/maps) if you don't have GE) and go to 15°17'54.71"N 19°25'47.00"E. You'll zoom in to a very low-resolution area at first, but be patient. Once you see what I'm talking about (and you will know it when you see it), zoom closer in and look just to the northeast of the marker. Say cheese...

Also, yay for voyeurism: -33.89078272871171 151.28221068531275 :p

And one more thing: look anywhere in the Swiss Alps. The entire range is hi-res down to the vehicle level, and when 3D terrain is turned on, the area looks photorealistic.

Anybody else have some surprising Google vistas?

That's too funny.

I used to know where a bunch of Russian military bases were around Moscow and you can even see MiG-29s that are missing parts.

i don't get it... looks like a pig farm or something.
Did you notice the one guy staring straight up into the camera? :p

I also thought it was pretty funny that out of the hundreds of thousands of (blurry) square miles of rural northern Africa, this one tiny patch of ground is in ultra-high resolution.

i guess my screen resolution isn't good enough, i can only see things that look a bit like the could be pigs.

it is odd that there should be such high detail for an area of less than an acre though.

My first guess was, 'holy crap, is that a mass grave!?'

Then I zoomed in more and saw it wasn't. And then I zoomed out more and saw I was looking at Chad (which, AFAIK, isn't into the mass gravery at the moment), and my fears were alleviated.

It reminds me to the cover (http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/en/b/b4/Muse_-_Absolution_Cover_UK.jpg) of Absolution.

Weird, maybe Muse is right - the aliens are coming.

Does anyone know what the piles are north and east (I think) of the man are? My best guess is they're clothes but I can't really tell.

I don't get the second one...is it supposed to be a rooftop in Sydney near a beach?
