Its not too bad its just Japanese cartoons comparative to American cartoons just with way better graphics, better storylines and deals with more depressing issues while cartoons in America deal with laughter and comedy.

I enjoy a few of the story-driven, set episode numbered animes that have been on Adult Swim.
I just enjoy nicely-thought out stories that are long enough to have some depth and there isn't really any American television that delivers that and I hate to say that I just don't have the attention span for most books.
It isn't something I talk about with most of my friends as an anti-anime fan sentiment is pretty prevalent in the group of people i hang out with.
There are five series that I would consider myself a "fan" of. Cowboy Bebop, Trigun, Full Metal Alchemist, Eureka Seven (dorkiest on my list, I think) and Ghost in the Shell.

Meh.
I LOVED the stuff back in 4th and 5th grade, when I watched stuff like Neon Genesis, Outlaw Star, and Gundam Wing.
I'm not really big on it now though. I can watch Gundam with my little brother (he's 6, I'm 17) and still be amused by the big explosions and stuff, but I never realized how cheezy the dialogue is or how goofy the characters looked. (The hair?)
The truley good Anime (I think anyway) isn't streamlined in America. The really good ones I've seen are Neon Genesis, Gundam 8th MS team, Initial D, and the Crest of the Stars series.
But stuff I hear and see the wierd kids talking about, like Naruto, Full metal Alchemist, Inyuasha, etc, I think is complete crap.
All and all, I'd say anime is pretty hit or miss.

Depends, do you mean the American version of the word, refering to a fan of anime, usually a hardcore fan, equivlent to Star Trek's Trekkie?
Or do you refer to the Japanese slang term for someone so obsessed with a hoby that he (or she) has dropped out of modern Japanese society to persue said hoby, usually alone?
Or do you mean the orginal Japanese meaning of 'house'?

I know an "Onichan". I think Oni means brother, and chan is the suffex you would use for cats and small children. He has an inyuasha and full metal alchemist handbag, and would wear his red full metal alchemist robe.

If he calls himself 'Onichan' (鬼ちゃん), you might want to ask him why he is refering to himself as a little ogre. Actually, even if he calls himself oniichan (お兄ちゃん), it sounds really strange to refer to ones self by a title like that.

Dunno about anyone else, but I grew up watching Cartoons. Bugs Bunny, Mighty Mouse, even Cosby Kids.
so Anime, to me, is a perfect blend of Childhood nostalgia mixed in with stories that satisfies my adult side.
Drama series like Touch can be a real tear jerker.
series like Madlax and Noir can get one thinking deep thoughts about human nature (if you can get past the "girls with guns")
Gundam is more about the pilots than the mecha (unless it was brought over to the US, then all the story fluff tends to be edited out. same with Macross, Southern Cross and Mospeda... AKA Robotech.)

But, seriously, I have met a number of anime fans who somehow seem to think that the minute they get off the plane in Japan that they'll find a wonderful girlfriend and their life will suddenly become peaches and cream. It's like they assume that Mega Tokyo is real life instead of dealing with the reality that Japan is another culture, and not a very accepting one at that.

Why do anime characters have caucasian skin? And why do they have enormous eyes? Very few japanese people have big eyes. And whats the deal with robots? Especially giant robots. And does anybody really understand spirited away? That movie was like The Labrynth on crack. The only anime I have seen and enjoyed was Milleneum actress, but it would have been better as a real movie imo.

The caucasian skin is due to Japanese styles of beauty where pale skin has been considered the best for very long time (Seriously, watch around Japan and you'll see some of the silly lengths Japanese women go to NOT tan).
The big eyes were infulenced by the older Disney movies (i.e. Snow White) and have become a standard thanks to Tezuka-sensei, who started the trend. But there are anime with smaller or more realistic eyes.
And what don't you understand about Sen to Chihiro (Spirited Away)?

Aren't a lot of Japanese people naturally fair anyway?

And why do they have enormous eyes?
Not all, but it's a popular art style. Supposedly makes characters cute. Some series deliberately avoid this and go for realistic depictions of proportions.
And whats the deal with robots?
It's Japan. Pioneering in robotics and high tech goodies ever since the 70s (I think). You can't expect that not to flow down to their entertainment.
Especially giant robots.
They started with giant lizards first that devastated Tokyo first. After they went high tech, they kept with the times and upgraded to giant robots to trash Tokyo and it's surroundings.
It's not so much giant robots, but the need to pancake their capital. No idea why though. :p

Depends upon whom you're comparing to. In winter, I am a few shades lighter than my wife, when I start tanning out, I get much darker, much to her amusement.

Well, I mean sort of like this:

I've seen a lot of them with that skin shade over here. Obviously, you can still find paler whites, but that is what I usually have in mind when it comes to Japanese.

That's a lot paler than I normally see (And given that's a model, I think she was picked for her pale skin).
The skin tones in these pictures here: http://search.japantimes.co.jp/cgi-bin/fl20070304x1.html are a bit closer to the mark.

*sighs* Tell me about it, what makes it worse is how wrong they get it.
Quite. One of my roommates is Japanese, and she's very much of the old school. Her friends (whom I have termed Teen Girl Squad: Japan) are rather more bubble gum pop type, so I've had an opportunity to learn a bit about a few aspects of Japanese culture. I find it quite interesting that in some ways that Japanese are quite like Americans in some respects (when compared to the French) but quite different in other respects.

The big eyes are important for artistical purposes, because sometimes the animation is so bad the only way they can portray emotions is through the characters eyes.
