Wait... wha?

So I just heard my local Fox News Channel (I apologize for those of you rolling on the floor laughing now... I just got finished watching 24) and they were saying that US officials confirmed that they dropped 2 2000 lb. bombs on a mud and brick (yes, mud and brick) building in Afghanistan. 2 of 'em.

For those of you not in the know as far as bomb warfare, a 500 lb. bomb kills you, your posse and your building; a 1000 lb. bomb kills you, your posse, your building, and anything in a significant radius. A 2000 lb. bomb kills you, your family, your posse, their family, the building, a few buildings around it, the environment, and basically anything in a 1/3 mile radius (correct me if im wrong on the radius :D )

Why they would use this on a mud and brick building? Gets me to asking "WTF?!"

Where, exactly, did this happen?

Afghanistan. I honestly can't believe that I forgot to put that in there. :headbang:

Did the US place them, or were those bombs FOUND there?

Dropped 'em out of a plane. Presumably a bomber :D

Were they trying to make sure they took out an underground basement/bunker or something?

Yeah...my guess is they wanted to make sure any underground or similarly hidden weapons cache's were destroyed.

Doesn't make much sense to bomb a building if the dead people's buddies come the next day and snag all the RPGs anyways.

Of course, this would be based on the assumption that the intel directing this bombing was accurate...a dubious assumption at best.

Awwwww but our information is always SO accurate.
Remember about those WMDs?
And that we got Osama?
Then we didn't get Osama?
And then Osama might have already been dead?
Mmmmm I love how well-informed our government is.

This war was totally just and called for based on the WMD threat, and has nothing to do with a ploy for oil. Not at all. We have such a moral, completely uncorrupted government. Makes me PROUD to be American.

So how much sarcasm is overkill?

Just a heads up, local affiliates (IE, your local fox network) aren't usually owned by the parent corporation (IE, Newscorp). Actually, because of how the ownership works, your local fox could be owned by CBS

Large building?

Mud brick probably absorbs energy fairly well, sort of like a sand bag.. large enough building and I could imagine dropping two.

I'm guessing that the figures are a gross overexaggeration.
Or maybe I'm in denial of the fact that anyone would consider it a good idea to drop 2 2000 lb bombs onto a mud and brick building.

Wow, the tensile strength of mud must just be - staggering. Perhaps NATO should catch up with their foes' wiley sense of architecture. Adobe military bases, anyone?

Like I said, they prolly reinforce their buildings with carbon nanotubes. Its the sort of devilish thing those terrorists would do, y'know?

As long as it wasn't a mud brick building in the middle of a residential neighborhood I don't care how many 2000 pound bombs are dropped on it.

So what? I'm used to government spending my tax money on blowing shit up. It's the American way.

I don't think the our firecrackers are as expensive as the military's toys. I'd prefer my taxes to be used wisely when they blow things up and to not use to big of an explosion.

*mutters more comments to ruin people's fun at seeing things go BOOM* :p
