Personally, I'm afraid of mankind's moosey fate...

Edit: Especially when people steal OPs.

First it was spear-throwing chimps. Now the moose have gotten into the act:

ANCHORAGE, Alaska - A helicopter is not necessarily a match for an angry moose. Instead of lying down after being shot with a tranquilizer dart, a moose charged a hovering helicopter used by a wildlife biologist, damaging the aircraft's tail rotor and forcing it to the ground.

Neither the pilot nor the biologist was injured, but the moose was maimed by the spinning rotor and had to be euthanized, wildlife officials said.

So, it's Moose 1, Helicopter 1, ending in a draw. Looks like you'll have to wait a bit before welcoming our new moose overlords. :D

What was the point of shooting it from the air if you're going to be low enough to the ground for it to charge you anyway?

I think it was landing to tag the moose....Or maybe the moose had a tractor beam.

Their stupidity resulted in the moose being maimed badly enough that it had to be euthanized.
They could have left it alone.

They should butcher it properly and eat it.
It will make them a little mindful next time they set out on an adventure.

Moose are a big problem in Alaska ... well, okay, the mixture of moose and tourists. A fellow here was telling me they show a film of some poor man being stomped to death by a moose on the news at the start of the summer tourist season as a warning. And where was the guy, I hear you ask? He was on the U of Alaska campus in Fairbanks or Archorage (I forget which). Came out of the library, walked between a mother moose and her calf and paid with his life. :(

We have a 600lb black bear-large by all standard, that wanders around our neighborhood unnanounced.

We take the neccesary precautions and act as if the bear is always around. Would he attack us? Who knows? He's a wild animal and sometimes they behave wildly.

I will say the first time I get any hint of agression on his part,I will blow him away.

That was one hell of a dumb pilot. To be that low was a dumb ass move.

I hope they didn't give him any Moose meat.

The moose hit the rotor and was only maimed. I was thinking something along the lines of a Moose Slushy.

Well, they did shoot it with a tranquilizer dart, they probably thought it was safe to go down. From what I understand, the best way to tag moose is just to wait for them to come in on their own. It's a lot safer.

That is actually not that uncommon in Alaska. I've had moose-meat chili a couple times when I lived there, and its actually quite a tasty meat. Its also probably enough to feed you for an entire winter or more.

Buffalo! Thick, but hearty! I heard Ostrich is a red meat substitute that tastes good too. I plan to try some soon.

Not much difference to your everyday meats. Camel or crocodile are better.
