Bread: lethal!!!!!!!!!!!

Bread is killing 7,000 people a year, according to the latest health scare.

No, it's not. But that's how many lives could be saved if supermarket loaves contained less salt, say "experts".

Okaaaaaaay then.

Nine slices a day will put you over the recommended daily intake of salt, they insist. Who do you know who eats nine slices of bread a day?

Me. I try to eat a full loaf over the course of a day. Usually two days max.

You'd have to have sandwiches for breakfast, lunch, afternoon tea and dinner to get anywhere near that.

No I wouldn't. I have at least 5 slices of bread with each hot meal usually.

And you'd still have to find room for an extra slice of toast before you go to bed.

Easy. And I'm STILL thin :) http://www.myspace.com/messedupinhead

Only old folk need worry about salt intake. I can eat a pile of it with no negative consequences. I usually have a slice or two of bread each day.

actually bread can kill me and my kids, but it's got nothing to do with salt.

I have a low bread, low salt diet. Not by any grand plan, but just by the things I like to eat.

Besides, most bread is pretty crappy, and suitable only for toasting.

Rice is the ultimate staple. I'll have none of this bread malarky.

Some kind of allergic reaction wasn't it? I can't remember to what though exactly. Wheat?

Well, that gives you an option if you ever want to off your kids. Better than drowning them in a car.

I can also easily reach that. 4 slices (or a few buns) for breakfast, 4-6 for lunch. Quite a normal quantity in fact...

I don't eat that much bread. Still, I doubt if I did it would ACTUALLY KILL me. Otherwise my nation would kill me for dying on them.

Wait. I have been banning alot of things lately... Ok. Maybe they would be thrilled. Butstill. >>;

BREAD is not all the same. the salt content varies from recipe to recipe.

if you eat a lot of bread, check the salt content of the kind you buy. if its high, choose a different brand that is lower. check the nutrution label for ALL nutrients. dont be fooled by buying crappy white bread made with the cheapest ingredients that is "good for you" because they add in the equivalent of a multi vitamin. you should be eating whole grain bread for the fiber anyway.

if you eat that much bread, you really ought to buy a bread machine and make your own fresh bread every day. you can then have complete control over the ingredients. it will taste better and be better for you. these days they are pretty cheap (even the cheapo ones at walmart work well) and they are very easy to use.

The other day I was on a bus coming home from Boston, and a kid ate a bag of salt from McDonalds for a dollar. He threw up. It wasn't a good bus ride.

Not really related, but it has the word salt in it. Also, as far as I know, hes not dead.

The throwing up probably saved his life. As for the salt in bread its probably more a case of increased sodium ions causing problems with the heart as opposed to loss of fluid and the resulting shrivelling of cells caused by consuming massive amounts of salt.

perhaps its the plastic bag.....if you stop eating the plastic bag and the tie-wrap that seals the bag there will be much less deaths....plus, its not nearly as tasty as the yummylicious bread..

Good lord, I can't believe how many people here are gorging on bread.

Please tell me at least it's not white sandwich bread, and something at least... good. Like semolina bread, pumpernickle.... anything you have to slice yourself...
