Were it not the day of my sister's birth, I'd be at Jenny Jump Observatory right now setting up my telescope alongside my friends.

Oh no, the moon won't be able to be seen for a minute or two! Oh wait.. doesn't its normal cycle involve making it go away anyway.

More than a minute or two: The eclipse begins at 2018 GMT, with the Moon totally immersed in the shadow of the Earth between 2244 and 2358 GMT.

Doesn't involve making it turn red, which does sometimes happen during an eclipse.
Having said that, most lunar eclipses are pretty unspectacular.

Heh... I just used Celestia to check it out. If I'm looking at this right, then for the eastern US the (eclipsed) moon will rise in the east around 6:00 PM EST, and will be in the process of passing out of the shadow by around 7-ish. It'll be pretty low on the horizon, though.

Why isn't it red damn it. This isn't exciting.

Its only red during totality, when the only light that can reach the moon has passed through the earth's atmosphere - only red light can do this. Actually, cos there's not been very many major eruptions, there's not much dust in the atmosphere, so its not as red as it could be. Somewhat grey, from where I was.

Still, it doesn't seem to have stopped LG.
