Who knew? NBA more gay-friendly than Conservatives

Just a slightly different take on the whole "Coulter calling John Edwards a faggot" story. When Tim Hardaway proclaimed his homophobia loud and proud on a south Florida radio show, the NBA distanced themselves, condemned his statement, and told him to stay away from All-Star weekend.
Coulter made her remarks at CPAC (Conservative Political Action Conference) and not surprisingly, no one there has yet asked her to apologize, or told her her words were inappropriate, or told her to leave.
When did the NBA become more sensitive to gay issues than conservatives? Neither is exactly hanging out the rainbow flag here, but it's interesting to see the two different forms of calculus at play. The NBA says there's no money in gay-bashing, and CPAC and the people there apparently think there is. The sad thing is, they may both be right.

I spent my entire time reading that trying to figure out what political organization the NBA was before figuring out that you were talking about basketball.
I need to get out more.

The NBA is also less racist than the Democrats.
I can't imagine them putting up with a potty mouth like robert byrd.

In the NAACP's [21] Congressional Report Card for the 108th Congress (spanning the 2003–2004 congressional session), Byrd was awarded with an approval rating of 100% for favoring the NAACP's position in all 33 bills presented to the United States Senate regarding issues of their concern. Only 16 other Senators of the same session matched this approval rating. In June 2005, Byrd [22] proposed an additional $10 million in federal funding for the Martin Luther King memorial in Washington, DC, remarking that "With the passage of time, we have come to learn that his Dream was the American Dream, and few ever expressed it more eloquently."http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Robert_Byrd
He was a racist when young, but he's grown up now and decided to do the right thing. Continuing to call him racist is just a lie, but that's par for the course in politics. Too bad you didn't see through the bullshit.

Which makes them exponentially less racist than Republicans, what with George "Macaca" Allen and the Citizens Committees.
I thought is was Joe 'Mukaka' Biden. And he's very concerned that you need an Indian accent to order in a dunkin donuts.

For any political part to claim that it can regulate the speech of its radical elements is at least a pipe dream and at most an outright lie.

I'm not saying that the conservatives ought to try to regulate Coulter's speech, any more than I would suggest the NBA should regulate Hardaway's. But the NBA at least stepped up and said that Hardaway's speech had consequences, and that he would no longer be allowed to officially represent them. Conservatives haven't even done that much with Coulter--to the contrary, Coulter's speech apparently got loud applause at the convention.
