Alternative Bases for Economy

So... With the threat of a stock market collapse ever hanging over our heads, threatening to pull down the entire of world trade with it, nations (like ourselves) may have to start thinking about viable alternatives on which to base their currency of trade. What other limited resources could you base your national economy on in such an event? IP addresses? Hours in educational establishments? Proportional ownership of the national Squirrel population?
