How much time and why exactly do you spend it outside?

I'm actually outside quite a bit..... Because its so damn interesting these days. Why? Global warming, I live in WI US, and you know something? We had a thunderstorm today at about 3pm. That Thunderstorm turned into a freaking blizzard, then back a thunderstorm, then into an ice storm, and ended about 2 hours ago. Thats f'ed up, and I dont care what the NeoCons say about global warning, cuz its here, and the earth is pissed, and will kill us all.
I'm outside maybe 15 minutes a day.

I'm outside maybe 15 minutes a day.
There are days when I only open the door to my balcony but don't even go downstairs to the mailbox.
I've changed those ways. I need more movement.
I'm not going back out there... you can't make me.
Why not? Eventually, you have to.
The outdoors is bad for you. You might end up participating in heathen exercise. Or get stung by a bee. Or something.
Heathen exercise like what?
I haven't seen bees yet, but the moskitos are back for about a week now.
I already ride my bike and I like it because while I'm on my way it clears my mind and I only concentrate getting forward.
Like yesterday: Somebody almost ran in front of my bike, I yelled "HALT!" - and she stopped with one leg in mid-air, stood to attention - and I had less than a foot of space between myself and her... :D Phew.
No time to ring the bell, no chance to break - is that reaction genetically implanted?

Well, that's great! I would spend very little time inside. We didn't really have "winter" here this there. Half a day of snow was all. :(

Soon, it shall be Summer, the most baneful and loathsome season of all, and then I won't go outside unless absolutely neccessary. And even then, I have to think twice about whether starving to death is really that much worse of a fate than the heat and sunburn.

And here, we don't have A/Cs. When it's hot, it's hot. 35°C at night - in the appartement.
Funny you should mention starving to death - I'm watching a documentary about the Migration Period. All started when some people were hungry while the Empire of Rome was thriving, around 200 years B.C. - really interesting stuff.

You mean, that place just beyond the window where the horrible burning light from comes? That place where strange noises come from the large wooden objects protruding from the ground, and the fluffy white things stick to the great blue ceiling? How do you get it to turn black and make the horrible burning light go away? Why does it leave so many small fires in the sky, what is that great white disc, is it the source of the burning?
Back to reality, this one, I do enjoy getting out and taking a good long walk every now and then. The longest I've ever walked was 10 miles, and that was just on a whim. My uncle swore I was trying to kill him though. He was waaaaaaaaaay out of shape, and went along with me.

Still, I like walks in the countryside during Winter time. The time that I really dislike the outdoors is Summer. I burn easily, and detest the heat. Even the prospect of hot, barely clothed men on the beach is not enough to incite me to leave my air conditioned abode.

The older I get, the more time I spend outside. I hated the outdoors when I was in my teens/early twenties. But I eventually saw the light. And now I'm about to move in with my farmer boyfriend, so I'll be spending a lot of time out doors from now on. I'm busy planning the kitchen vegetable, herb, and flower gardens right now.
Outside is awesome. Me and my friends take every opportunity to enjoy the outdoors. My city has an excellent park and rec department, so there is no shortage of outdoorsy stuff to do.
There are a couple of state parks around here that have miles and miles of trails...we've gotten lost for a whole day just wandering about.
We also tend to just hang out outdoors a lot in the summer, mainly because in Wisconsin we're cooped up indoors for about half the year.
We go sledding in winter, play disc-golf in spring and into the summer, go swimming during the hottest parts of the summer, and play football in the fall.
Though my circle of friends is older now, so football is leading to more injuries than in the past. :p

I'm basically addicted to the outdoors. If I don't get in some real fresh air at least every other weekend, I go a little bonkers. I'm going snowshoeing this weekend, for instance, and it's actually the best thing I can do given that I have a chemistry test coming up next week. If I shut myself in and made myself study I'd be completely burned out by the time the thing arrived. I also work summers as a camp counselor and get all the outdoors I could want, which in my case is quite a bit.

You're lucky. The upper midwest has some of the best outdoor amenities as well as a wonderful environment. That's where I learned to really enjoy being outside. I lived in St Paul, MN for many years, and they had some of the best city parks I had ever seen. They spend a lot of money on building/maintaining them and keep them very clean. And, of course, the wilder areas of MN, WI and the upper peninsula of MI are beyond compare. I really miss it. For the most part, Texas parks suck. The anti tax hysteria here has taken a severe toll on public spaces. Fortunately, I'll only be here for another month or so. :D
I don't spend much time out there now since I don't have to travel to uni everyday, but it used to be at least 2 hours a day inbetween waiting for buses/trains and walking to places. Not much fun. I rarely go outside for the sake of enjoyment.

Right dude, here in WI our winters, when I was a kid, used to last from October to April, it for half of it it'd be below zero. Fast forward about 10 years, and we had early fall like weather, like 50 degree weather, until Janurary, then it actually snowed, and we only had like one week of below zero weather in feburary, then two weeks later its warm one day and cold the next. And now its just confused- Winter only really happened for about a month long. Not that I'm complaining, I hate winter with a passion- But the weather has just been so peculiar, it creeps me out.

Bah. Winter is the best part. ;) Well, an enjoyable part any way. I probably spent more time outdoors up there during winter than summer. Not that it's hard to do with winter being longer and all. In the cities, they plowed all the park trails through the winter so you could still get out and walk or bike them. And the north shore of Lake Superior is absolutely breath taking in February. Good times. But yes, an extra month of late summer or fall would have been nice.

I've got it pretty lucky living in Oregon. My hometown has an internationally famous park system that encompasses the whole urban area (thanks to our regional government), and I live a few hours' drive from the mountains, the beach, the high desert, and the Gorge. I figure I have all this available to me (especially for cheap through my college's outdoor club), so why not take advantage of it?

I spend a great deal of time outside lately. The town I live in has a great bus system if it's raining, but if the weather permits I walk just about everywhere in the centre-ville. Sometimes I have 2 or 3 hour breaks between classes and I just go walk around town. Yesterday between classes I went and walked around the castle. It was cool.

The last time I was out was because I was bored and my grandmother was going to the store.
I spent about 7 minutes total in the car, about 15 minutes in the store, and about 50 seconds between getting in and out of the car, and entering/exiting the building in question.
I dunno if it counts though... because it was dark out [no sun]

Eewkay! That's what I was talking about. Yay! :p
I haven't been outside in over 3 weeks.
Which makes me wonder how many people posting on NSG drink blood to sustain themselves.
I simply have to leave to go grocery shopping...

While without a car but on a bike it's really a pain in the ass to do the grocery shopping, I have to go usually once a week... If I would order my food online I'd never leave the house - but I wanna meet people.

I love the outdoors. I love the wind, the colors, the air. the sounds of birds in the morning. Reclining on a hammock in the yard, taking deep breaths, taking in the enormity of it all. I love the feel of dirt on my hands; I love the smell of it on my skin. I love the life that exists in nature, the grass, the trees, and me, a part of it all.

I like being outside! I have to walk through the park to get to uni every day. With uni being at the top of a hill, it's good exercise. Those of you who follow the photography thread may know that I'm rather fond of the mountains. ;) We usually manage to get out of the city every week or so.
Actually, I spent most of last summer outdoors. The park here is in the middle of student central - its rammed full of barbeques on a sunny day, there's a real festival feel to it.

I tried going outside today. I got as far as turning the door handle! But then I couldn't do it anymore. I had to go sit back down in front of the TV.
Maybe tomorrow I'll try actually opening the door. then again, I don't wanna go to fast, I might hurt myself.
