Furries get skinned

A man in Queens, NY has been busted for selling costumes of Scooby Doo, Barney the purple dinosaur, and others specially modified for the production of furry porn. It seems he infringed on copyrights and the companies that legitimately own those characters don't want them involved in porn for some reason. They're totally ignoring a potential market among furry pervs. Anyway, I like how they end the article with a "Think of the children" type quote. Personally I hope these folks aren't thinking of the children when they wear their costumes.

"Kinky Costume Caper Crushed"?
I'm all for alliteration, but...

It is unfortunate that Furries are treated the way they are. It is a harmless fetish. This has nothing to do with children, despite the article's spin.

Nor am I a big fan of copyright law either.

This is more of weird and sad, instead of a weird and funny.

"There isn't a child around who doesn't watch the exploits of Dora the Explorer, Bob the Builder, Barney and Scooby-Doo," Queens District Attorney Richard Brown said. "To corrupt the image of these popular cartoon characters or have individuals of unknown backgrounds dressed in cheap-looking costumes in close proximity to young children is particularly troublesome."

hopefully they don't have children around while they are making porn.

and while I understand the companies being upset, I don't really understand how an adult sexual fetish involves children.

Neither do I, really, and a good thing, too.

The people who own Barney have been very assertive in protecting their rights to their character. You can only get a "Barney" costume from them, or from authorized makers, I guess. I've heard of costume shops trying to pass off knock-off costumes as "Barney" and getting their asses sued, big time.

Because anthropomorphic animals are automatically targeted at kids.

Well, I'd offer links but I doubt the mods would approve.

Furry porn is very easy to find, one of the comics I read regularly the artist draws it for a pay section of his site. Which is a bit odd, but hey, why not.

Well that was the argument against Camel cigarettes' mascot "Joe Camel". Also if you cover up his head and leave his snout sticking out it's supposed to resemble a penis. If you have a box of camels handy and you look closely at one of the legs of the camel you can see a picture of a man with an erection hidden in the picture. Makes me think they're marketing to gays or women.

There are supposedly 3 K's hidden somewhere in the package of Marlboro cigarettes although I've never seen them.

Now I'm going to take a break while I try to figure out how the "Thomas the Tank Engine" costume would be used for porn...

Rule 34.

they were not making porn. the Investigator and Detective posed as Porn producers to obtain the costumes.

the real crime is trademark violation.
