I thought it would be fun to do an online version of the old party game where one person starts a story, the next person continues it in an unexpected direction, the person after that makes their own twist on it, and so on. The point is to see where it goes and have fun in the process. So, here goes:

Renchi stared upward in awe as the flaming corpses of the giant insects descended through the atmosphere. He had seen it before, several times since his childhood, as the Providers returned every fifteen years to sacrifice themselves at the altar of their homeworld to lay eggs and, in so doing, restore a home for the inhabitants of the world. Soon they would carve out the vast exoskeleton and build inside it a city. This time, though, something seemed amiss, and an uneasy feeling chewed at his elderly gut. Something else was descending alongside the Providers, something quite unexpected and menacing.

Now it's your turn. I've been trying to get a story out of this and I'm lost for ideas. I'm sure you'll have better luck...

Then I rise from the dead and kill the spam monster, I then use the blood to revive everyone else

however, due to a warp in space/time, the revial of the people came just before their destruction at the mass of the unedible spam monster...

they thanked their saivor just as the meaty monstrosity landed on them with a wet thud..

But the giant spam monster chokes on some bacon and dies. Then some llamas make a village on its corpse.

And a giant mod stomps the life out of the llamas for playing word games on NS. The end.

As the thing descended it began to come into focus and take shape. soon it appeared to be two objects of significantly different sizes. the larger was roughly ovoid with a wide beating tale. the smaller was just a dot at this point but as they descended it became clear that there were odd colourful growths emerging from the top. soon the larger object became identifiable. it was a sperm whale, and it appeared to be rather confused and excited. it could be heard muttering rapidly to itself in a strange language. the smaller object turned out to be a bowl of petunias and, in contrast to the whale, seemed rather disinterested in its surroundings as if it had seen it all before. However, a distinct air of impending doom radiated softly from it's surface as it telepathically projected the thought "Oh no! not again" before smashing into the exploded corpse of the whale where it had met an abrupt end almost instantaneously on introducing itself to the ground.

This could pose a problem. What if two or more people are continuing from the same part of the story? Big mess and wasted effort. How about we post a reservation, and then put our continuation into the post when appropriate?

That's OK; I'm a Douglas Adams nut, too. All in good spirit.

Wow, the timewarps on this thing are bad. I half expect this reply to appear before my OP.

Whatever floats your boat. Although from the general quality of what's emerged so far, the point appears academic.

one of the problems is that this thread might be better off in an RP thread. and remove any mention of "Game"

Mods don't like Word Games...

also, not enough information as to the world and story.
for instance...

where are the eggs laid? since they die via re-entry...

I could continue it with...

"Renchi watched as a triangluar shape fluttered between two of the corpses... suddenly a trail of smoke and fire sprouts from the strange shape followed by another.... this time, a seed like object is seen being ejected into the air... as several plumes spread out from the 'seed', carring the precious cargo safely down to take root.

The last thing Lt Colburn saw after ejecting, was a strange lanscape, littered with insectoid carcasses before blacking out."

That's where you come in. The idea I had was that the insects sacrifice themselves partly so that the eggs can survive the trip down, which they wouldn't if they didn't have a huge body around them to take the damage. If you or anyone else thinks of something better, go for it.

On the other hand, if the mods don't quite take "anything and everything" at its word, I suppose we could just abandon this thing, too. Although it's at least better than that math problem from that other thread.

Sleep that night turned out to be no relief from his anxiety, with troubled dreams punctuated by long periods in a nervous waking trance. He awoke the next morning in the clammy embrace of his sweaty bedding.
A glance outside his window revealed to him a dense blanket of pewter fog, interspersed with stumbling pedestrians with their briefcases, clutching rags to their mouths.

I'm going to bed now, but I'll probably continue this tommorrow.
