Ever wish you could live as a subsistence level farmer in an unstable third world country, but it's just too inconvenient to leave home and travel to some shithole region of the world? Well you're in luck.

Tripled my starter cash in one year. Gee that was tough, now I'm not a subsistence farmer anymore.

That was pretty depressing. Ten turns, had to send two family members away to work in the City, one died, then the last one had to give it up. :(

I won and scored 1050. Wifey died from some illness, but never mind. Bought a new one. Cost about the same as a plough.

Not a bad game. Longest I've lasted so far is 25 years.

I got to 23. Started out ok. Had a bunch of chickens. Fucking refugees stole 'em and I spent the rest of the game barely surviving while my kids and wife died around me. Too bad you can't elect to get together with your friends and family and kill the refugees in this game.

I just got to 48 turns, 10 babies, 8 marriages. Of course, all the original family was long gone by the end, and the last survivor did pretty much starve to death.

All the fun of being a peasant in a third world country but without the AIDs!

*Bad taste police burst in, drag outside and shoot in head*

Edit: Won in 15 turns. I dunno if that's good or bad. score of 927.

Made $50,000, build all the projects, survived three civil wars, four droughts, six corrupt officials, bought dozens of cattle, lost my farm equipment several times, and sent my kids to school, and in ended it with 54 turns. I could have won after the first few turns, but I stick it out for four generations... man, those dowry payments are generous!

Gad, this thing is as addictive as NSG!

I won one! :D Over $6,000, all prjects built (communications, school, clinic, road, my very own natioal representative, and crop insurance). Everybody (almost) had years of schooling, the last few years everybody got medicine every year. But it was tough going, took 43 years, but only two generations. You should see the knotty-pine rec room I put in the hut at the end! :D

You guys must have gotten some good crop years. I kept losing my livestock to the friggin' refugees and guerrillas.

I didn't build livestock until the ninth turn, and stuck with a varied mix of crops for almost all of the turns.

Yeah, I should have varied my crops more. I got some chickens early on but didn't go for the pigs and cows until way later.

The corrupt official tried to take my money, but the joke was on him because my crops had failed last year and my family didn't have anything left.
Oh how we laughed and laughed, and then everyone starved to death.

Done in 10 generations, but I kept up for another 9, until I got bored, and figured 20k was enough cash.

If they wanted to add a bit more realism to the game, they'd have the guerrillas or refugees rape your womenfolk as they passed by, or have the refugees settle down on half your land and refuse to move, or have Western missionaries swing through and thump a few bibles. Or when the paramilitary rents your land, they take a couple of your children as recruits.

It was nice to switch from being a starving artist who is screwed over by and hates the government to being a starving subsistence farmer who is screwed over by and hates the government.

Edit: My family, with their harvesters, barns, and elephants, PWNed the country.

They should make an RPG where you have to travel through Africa, jump on a boat, survive to the coast of Spain and not get caught. Much better than subsistence stuff. This thing sounds like the equivalent of "hero decides not to fight enemy warlord, stays home and grows turnips instead. Has 2.7 children."

44 turns 3yrs in school, 2 for one son one for another, one son married off one daughter married off, one daughter went to city to work (didn't need the money, but the screen said she wanted to), Only lost one person, the first family head and replaced him with a new husband, bought everything in the game you could buy Score:1395.

edit:opps forgot I never got around to buying elephants, filed up on the other stuff, so one thing not bought. Also had one offer to grow opium, but turned it down.

After playing this game, I now staunchly believe living in the 3rd world is easy. I won after 13 turns (not on purpose, I just wanted the last gimmick). The first 3 times the wells caved in, I laughed because I possessed none :) My children went to school all the time, nobody died because I gave them their meds whenever they dropped below 85%. Medicine is cheap in the 3rd world, apparently. In the last year I 'lost almost everything' because of a civil war, but was still left with 2.5k.

It's certainly more fun this way, but if the game wants to be realistic, it should be far more difficult.

I could have won around day 30 but was greedy and then the national bank collapsed twice so I built it back up again and ended it
