Cat got your tongue?

Nope, the teacher does. Or maybe "no, gla gleshr gus". A teacher cut off a seven year old kid's tongue in Milan because he was talking too much. On one hand, you've got to commend the teacher on his/her efforts to discipline the kids and keep them in line. On the other hand, using scissors to sever a kid's tongue seems a bit harsh. What ever happened to slapping the kid's knuckles with a ruler or just humiliating the kid in front of all of his friends until he breaks down in tears and wets himself?

I read about this in the paper today, but unfortunately it was only a sentence long in a "weird stuff" column. The bigger version is much better, if only for this line:

The teacher, who has only been identified by her initials R S, has since apologized, claiming it was an accident.

How do you accidentally cut off someones tongue? Inquiring minds would like to know.

Actually, for that matter, how do you "stitch" someone's tongue back on? I wouldn't have thought that's possible.

you can't do any of that either because then you get dragged into the principal's office and reamed out for the failures of the parents to control their child's behavior.

Oh, they can reattach most anything you might feel the need to cut off, medical science is really quite remarkable these days.
According to Corriere, the 22-year-old substitute teacher threatened the child twice with a pair of scissors before actually chopping it off.

'Pull out your tongue. I'll cut it, and you'll no longer talk,' she was quoted as telling the child.
Just how stupid would the kid have to be to actually open his mouth for the teacher at that point?

Weird news never makes the front page. If it's in the front, DCD will not glance at it. Front means normal, back is where all the real good stuff is.

There really shouldnt be permanent punishments, but I'm willing to bet that it shut up the class fast.

And I cannot believe that teacher is a) not in jail for this and b) has only been suspended instead of fired. The fuck? How can there even be a need to "investigate" anything on part of the school? She cut off his tongue.

Yes, I was wondering that... They're actually considering letting her come back and be left alone with children again one day?

Makes me glad I'm not in the Milanese school system. Actually, I don't talk much in public to begin with, but I have a habit of doodling in class.

If you read the comments, someone mentions "Apparently this story is severely slanted, and should be corrected. The Italian press are reporting that the incident was an accident. The child's tongue was not cut off, but required stitches after he, angry at the teacher threatening him to be quite or else.. ran towards the teacher carrying scissors, and BAM! you have your story."

So it's quite possible that this kid didn't actually have his tongue cut off... although another source might be required to confirm this. It does seem unlikely that the parents would have waited on reporting this if the tongue had been severed though.

Its so hard for me to comprehend. The teacher is a psychopath.

I hate to go down the "if that was my son" road, but, I will anyway- the teacher's tongue is all authorities would be able to recover.

It'd be the teacher,me and a pair of scissors and a very long weekend somewhere quiet.

Although as usual, it seems that the truth is somewhere in between...

So the boy wasn't running after the teacher with scissors, but the tongue wasn't severed and it could conceivably have been an empty threat followed by an accident and the teacher is going to be fired anyways.

Heh, yeah, I just found pretty much the same article in a German newspaper, also basing its information on the Corriere della Sera, which is a "serious" newspaper (the biggest in Italy, if I'm not mistaken).

Holy fuck. In Italy? That's, um, frighteningly close in quite a few ways. :/

And I cannot believe that teacher is a) not in jail for this and b) has only been suspended instead of fired. The fuck? How can there even be a need to "investigate" anything on part of the school? She cut off his tongue.

Well, technically it still speaks higher of Italy than America, considering if it happened in America we'd still simply put the teacher on suspension and honestly think there's a reason to investigate, and then find a way to blame it on violent media.

But seriously, if it were up to me, I'd just lock her up and let anyone take a cut at her so long as they pretended it was a mistake. Of course any idiot can tell it wouldn't be a mistake, but any idea can tell her doing that wasn't an accident as well. Let cruel and unusual punishment be punished with more cruel and unusual punishment, maybe then freaks would think twice before being freaks.

Yeah, someone should let Drunk commies know so we don't keep getting people going on as though the kid's tongue was actually cut off and saying that bad things should happen to the teacher for what seems pretty much like an accident, even if she was really dumb to get in the situation where that accident could occur.

Meh. I think bad things -should- happen to the teacher. She got scissors, held them up to the kid's tongue and threatened to cut it off - that right there is enough for conviction in the US as well as her losing her teaching license.

Not sure about Italy, though.

I really don't care if the kid's tongue was completely cut off or not - even if it wasn't, that teacher was retarded to even take the steps that would lead to any sort of an accident of that nature and had no reason not to know better.
