A short one, a piece of a yet barely started story.
A good one to me, but I'm scared that I won't win anything at all.
On the plus side, I now have a chance of winning $250.00 if I have the best prose.. though that's probably out of my reach.

I've entered before, won a small bit of money once...but nothing noteworthy.
I want to enter for short stories, as I feel I'm much better at it that poetry, but I'm having trouble finding a good place.

It's just a high school contest, I don't know how many people entered.

But the Person (:p) you have to send the entry to teaches at my school.

"There is no Harsher judge of your Creative Work than yourself and often times, that judge is WRONG."
now... repeat that phrase to yourself and don't stop untill confidence as grown. :p

seems like you might have a good chance then.
but dont get fixated on winning contests. it can be a bit of a popularity contest instead of a best story contest. its good to enter as long as you dont feel like you failed if you dont win. they might reject you because you put something too realistic in (if you know what i mean)
being an artist of any kind is a series of rejections. you have to develop a thick skin and take rejection in stride. it will happen your whole writing life.

I entered a contest once and got 200 dollars in...bonds. Then I lost the next year because I basically wrote the same damn story again. Even if you don't win that doesn't make the story crap.
Good luck! If it makes you feel better, I jealously wish I had a creative bone in my body and could write. :(

The thing is probably judged by a commitee, so the best chance of winning is to write by commitee.
