Play Stick Cricket!

Since the Pandemic thread was reasonably popular, why not try another neat little game.

http://stickcricket.foxsports.com.au/game.php

Use your arrow keys to hit the ball in the right direction. Timing is of the utmost importance.

My best result in the 10 over slog is 245, with the highest scorer being Gilchrist on 148 not out.

What's yours?

I prefer the BBC cricket game. Sure it's just the Ashes, but it's still better.

As far as this game is concerned, just know this:

A guy throws a ball at you. You need to protect your three sticks by hitting it away.
You also get points (called "runs") for hitting the ball away. Especially good is when you manage to hit the ball to the rope around the field, because that's 4 runs, and if you hit it over the rope without it hitting the ground first, because that's 6 runs.
Every six balls they change the guy who throws at you. Those six balls are called an "over". So when they talk about a run rate, that means how many runs you score per six balls.
There are different types of bowlers. Some bowl quick, others bowl slower and some spin the ball so that it changes direction when it hits the ground. Pay attention to what the ball is doing.
You can lose your batsman by either having your three sticks destroyed or by hitting the ball and having it caught by the other team. You have ten batsmen, when you lose all of them you're out.

I used ot play it last year, but haven't for a while. I think my best was around 270 or 280.
The high score is 358, which is ridiculous. That's a six off every ball bar one (which was a 4).
Some people have far too much time on their hands.

When a batsman gets out without scoring any runs, people call that a Duck. If he gets out from the first ball he faces, it's a Golden Duck.

Don't ask me why, probably has something to do with hunting.

Apparently it's because the 0 shape looks like an egg. It used to be called a duck egg or goose egg & just got shortened to duck, or so I've heard.

33 all out.
The up cursor seems to play a straight drive.
Playing too early is suicide. Timing is indeed everything.
If the batter misses, the bowler hits the stumps half the time. It ain't like that IRL.

Still, 33 is pathetic. I'm drunk.

On a vaguely related note, has anyone seen the movie Lagaan?

It is a Bollywood musical about a strapping young man who saves his village from the Evil British Guy by beating him at cricket.

He's nasty.

The only thing you can really do is watch where the ball will bounce. If it's close enough to you, you don't really have to worry about how it'll turn. If it's short, it'll turn legside and you can hit it then. It's practice, mostly. These days I normally get about 21 runs per over from him. It's the medium-pacer that I somehow have trouble with. I can never quite get the timing right.

And once you've gotten yourself a half-decent score in the 10 over slog, you can move on to the tournament and win that.

And then it gets really tough in the "World Domination" challenge. You play 20-20 cricket against one team after another, each one getting better and better. I'm up to playing India at the moment, with a required run rate of between 24 and 25 to win - from the start.
Gorillapigs
04-03-2007, 09:42
I've only once scored 300 in the 10 over, but I do win the tournament everytime. I must move on to world dominator now that I know how not to lose wickets

this is how you play:
http://img135.imageshack.us/img135/390/stickcricketjo0.th.jpg (http://img135.imageshack.us/my.php?image=stickcricketjo0.jpg)

slow spinners are always the hardest to play. You have to wait so long until you hit them.
I hate the slow balls that start going down Leg but then swing back towards Off. I can never play those!
Using the 'up' button almot never works for me. I either block it or invariably hit it straight to a fielder. damn it all.
