Romney: The New John Kerry
Dishonorable Scum

Well, it's bad enough that he's a "Massachusetts Liberal", by Republican standards anyway. But now we hear two criticisms of him that were also applied to John Kerry: He has good hair, and he's a flip-flopper:
BOSTON - An internal document shows Mitt Romney's presidential campaign is concerned about his vulnerability to charges of flip-flopping, while suggesting he can differentiate from President Bush with a single word: "intelligence."
Campaign advisers even fret that the former Massachusetts governor has too perfect hair, according to the 77-slide PowerPoint presentation, a copy of which was obtained by The Boston Globe.

So, when does the Swift-Boating begin? :D

Yeah. The way the Republicans came up with all that BS about Kerry was despicable. Seems like they're going to wheel out the same barrow of crap and start their ridiculous mud slinging. Again.
The worst thing is that he's supposed to be one of their own.

This is probably the only "candidate" that I won't mind getting "swiftboated" out of the election. But then, I've never hidden my disgust with either him, or the GOP as a whole. Oh well, looks like Johnny McCave will be the one to fall on his sword for the losing party on '08

I heard recently that of Romney, McCain, Giuliani and Gingrich, the only one who's only had one wife is the Mormon. :p

Brilliant! I love it! I wonder if this is where the "flip-flopping" charges come from. "Governor Romney, you say you're a Mormon, and yet you've only had one wife. So which is it, Governor?" :D

more the fact that, as governor of MA, he supported gay rights (supported gays in the military, and was known to be a particularly "gay friendly" Republican), stated in 1994 that abortion should be "safe and legal in this country", donated to democratic candidates, etc...the very things he now claims to despise
I wouldn't call him a flip flopper, because yes, people can change their minds.
Amazing, however, that his opinions became amazingly liberal when he wanted power in Mass, and amazingly conservative when he wants to be president

Ironically, no one ever seriously accuses McCain of flip-flopping but I guess that is because it is just assumed.

That's because the media fucking loves the guy. They won't call him out no matter he does.

"I actually did vote before the $87 billion dollars before I voted against it."
Can anyone say "Foot in Mouth"? It's the political equivalent of painting a bullseye on your back.

An amazingly f*cked up state of affairs that a guy who can't pronounce a litany of not even particularly difficult words AND who bailed out of a full service (while safe from any particular risk) can command legions of twisted denizens over this particular issue, who have the lack of decency and self-respect TO THIS DAY as to defend his evil bullsh*t.
Sorrowful, truly.

I don't see Romney getting past the primaries, like the Dems there are already 2 bigname candidates in the Republican party who unless they do something stupid, and plenty of frontrunner presidential candidates have in the past(dean scream). Romneys only chance is if McCain and Guliani both do something stupid, say something stupid, or someone digs up some dirt on them.

Well, the stupidity of humankind is not to be underestimated. And there is dirt to be dug on both of them, if one cares about such things.
And it's entirely possible for a charismatic guy to emerge from the pack and overtake the media-anointed front-runners. Last time it happened, it was a guy name Clinton, as I recall. Last time it happened before that, the guy's name was Carter. It can be done.
The question is, can Romney do it? Right now he's trying to position himself as the candidate of the religious right, which will be a stretch given his past positions, and which isn't going to win him any friends in the political mainstream. But if he can do it, and McCain and Giuliani split the moderate vote sufficiently... Well, we'll see. It's going to be an interesting race for both parties, I think.

Seconded. Obama for '08.

On the charges of flip-flopping, Mitt is only guilty of the flip. Pre-2004, Mitt was personally pro-life but felt it was not right for the government to direct the women in her choice. In 2004, he had a disscusion with a Harvard scientist about stem-cell research. In this conversation, the scientist stated that many embryos were discarde after 2 weeks (it is controversial whether it was stated discardes or killed). Mitt personally came to the conclusion that life should not be 'discarded' so haphazardly and changed his attitude towards the government role in abortion and stem-cell research. He states that he feels it is a states right to decide on the issue, not the national government. Changed his view once.
On the issue of homosexual marriage, there is no flip or flop. In 1994, the gay community was not very accepted so a conservative canidate even acknowledging them was rare. Mitt supported equal rights up to a civil union level (not quite sure where exactly). He never supported gay marriage. The clips you might see are him saying there must be no discrimination against gays, not pro-marriage.
