Most nerve-wracking experiences?

What makes you most nervous?

For me there are two things that fray my nerves even more than exams worth large percentages of my grades, one is asking people for favours or jobs. Like today I asked one of my profs to write a letter of refrence for me and even though I interact with the man like a normal person most of the time and I know he wouldn't say no to my request because he's a nice guy, I still got really nervous about the whole thing.
Then there's the whole issue of getting into grad school next year... see, getting into university I wasn't at all worried about, my grades were there and there were lots of spots open for lots of students and I know I was somewhere sitting near the top, getting accepted after the first semester of my last year didn't hurt either. But it's not the same here, where I'm somewhere in the upper-middle of the pack and probably in the lower range for people applying to graduate school. So I won't know what I'm going to do for September until the end of the school year and probably a bit after since my final grades will have to come in and all that. Eep!

my children accomplishing things I am afraid to do makes me nervous (like the gut butterfly nervous) because I want to stop them, because I am afraid, but I don't want them to be screwed up like me, so I don't stop them, but then I try to hide my fear because I don't want to freak them out.......does that make sense?

I also get pretty nervous before I lecture, I feel like no matter how prepared I am that I am going to screw up, or worse that I won't have enough prepared and the people who are paying me will think they wasted their money.

What makes you most nervous?

I'm not very fond of attention, so I get really nervous when in a group of people the conversation starts to revolve around me. I hate that.

Being anywhere where it's dark. I have a frustrating paralyzing fear of darkness.

why?

my kid is afraid of the dark and she can't explain it to me, she knows there are no monsters, and that there are no ghosts, but she is still afraid of the dark.

I'm not very comfortable with giving speeches in class. The worst is when I am one of the last to go because it just builds up my anxiety. Just like tomorrow and how I have to do an oral interpretation of poetry in my public speaking class and I haven't even memorized the poem yet.

When something leaves my control and enters into the realm of judgement of another.

For example, I spent nearly a week as a total nervous wreck as I was waiting for the internship I applied for earlier in the spring. I was practically a shoo-in, but I still drank heavily every night to calm my nerves.

When I think I've lost something, no matter how important, I always get that horrible feeling that starts in your gut, but slowly spreads outwards through your body...

Not a lot of things.

Usually when I´m surfing and something touches my leg, I feel kind of afraid.

I´m telling you, if a shark atacks me when I´m out there, Ill not die from bleeding but from a heart atack.

talking on the phone. i hate ringing people and usually refuse to answer the phone at all unless i know who it is and what they want.

i'm just afraid of being asked something i don't know the answer to.
it was the same thing with being picked on in class in school...

Public speeches. I hate having to talk formally to others. I unfortunately start shaking and it irritates me immensely.

Being around ducks makes me the most nervous - I never know what to say to them...

Just give the ducks bread soaked in whiskey - they're not in much of a talking mood then. I did it in Hawkshead and they just sat around me whilst I read.

Being attacked by two German Shapherd dogs whilst out walking: and then whilst out working encountering the BIGGEST Alsatian I have ever seen (without a lead on) and the being rapidly approached by another barking German Shepherd with blue eyes whilst walking through Lancaster.

Being half asleep and realizing, by the sudden quiet, the ten or so other people in the carriage are all boneheads, that it's after midnight and that it's a weekday. I'd love to know why they didn't jump me, but it didn't occur to me to ask at the time.

But on the positive side, I now know exactly how a goat feels when it's tied to a peg & surrounded by hungry Komodo Dragons.

I'm okay with public speaking and presentations, but get the nerves/shakiness thing *afterwards.* In fact, I tend to do that a lot in stressful situations. When I got a call that my son was being taken to the hospital I was a cool as could be through driving to the hospital, going though his xrays and surgery, until I got home that night and fell apart.

I'm more comfortable making a presentation in front of 200 people than sitting at a lunch table with 10 people I don't know. That's about as stressful a situation as I can imagine.

Public speaking, though I've never had a problem with musical performance. Perhaps writing a personal letter to my friend to reveal some long-held secrets was the most nerve-wracking.
