reactions to YOUR art

Have you ever drew a picture that you thought people would hate, but was surprised when they liked it? What about poems, stories, sculptures, complex dances, plays and/or skits, etc.? How about the inverse where you thought it would be loved by all but everyone hated it?

Because I don't want this to be seen as self-advertisement, I won't show any pics unless ask to.

I wrote a few poems that won awards, I didn't ever think they were very good though.

Basically nobody likes my art, it doesn't bother me though, I don't really make it to be looked at, mostly it's therapy and I would rather toss it in the trash when it's done, but hubby does like it, I guess because he knows the story behind it.

I wrote some Halo fanfiction a few months ago. I thought it was a rushed POC, but it ended up winning a signed copy of the latest novel in the book series. :D

I recently got offered a lot of money for a painting of mine that I would not really have considered to be of value

my art is a lot like Smnunkees I think - done for my own amusement but sometimes I share it to see what people will think and usually it's a lot of "meh". Thats okay though.

You can react to it yourself right here!

In my first year at college, I was so pissed off at the tawdry, humanist crap in the campus "literary magazine", that I submitted a hastily written parody about a man who pushes a bum down some stairs and kills him.
I was only hoping to insult them, but they called my bluff and published it. I still feel queasy at the idea that someone else actually might have read that thing.

I won a Z-board with a short story, but it was to a nobody fansite that probably had no more entries than the winner amount.

when i showed some of my photos to real people (my gf's family) a few weeks back, i was shaking like a leaf afterwards. i wasn't sure what to expect, so i set myself up for failure and criticism to avoid being hurt. as it turned out they loved the pics, which was great, but i still had to make excuses and leave to have a sit down afterwards :P

i so couldn't cut it in the real world... :p

edit: not that i call my photos "art" FYI

I play music which is intended to provoke a negative response in people who listen to it. It is harsh, often dischordant, or out of tune, and uncomplex. The purpose of the music is to express the emotional content of the music without the fripperies and restraints of the pop dialectic.

Needless to say, it mostly gets a negative response. I'm unbothered. It is, however, a pleasure, to find people who enjoy my music. It's happened once or twice.

I don't get why everyone likes this pic. I guess its because I drew it and I can see possible improvements that others can't, just like how I can like a song and the song writer can hate it.

I'd bet that it is good. You have a great sense of humor and are very imaginative. You don't seem to cut yoruself off from mulling over ideas that you don't agree with as well which I think is essential in a good writer.

If you are shy with your writing, publish it or share it online under a different name. Mine for instance :p

Yeah, that always happens. People love my crap, and hate my masterpieces. But that's really because my personal favourite work is very raw and experimental, and people don't like that. They like it when I put on my generic cap and write solid-gold crap they can relate to. It's the same reason that people love JK Rowling and hate James Joyce.

(No, I'm not saying I'm as good as James Joyce!)

People already disliked pictures where I spent a lot of effort on and told me never to draw again, while they liked my quickly drawn pictures (both OS-tan-related).

All the time. And I won't bother to share.

I'm surprised when I show somebody my writing and people actually like it. I don't mean RP posts I mean like in real life.

I'm also surprised when my friends and father are impressed by my bass playing skills (I started two months ago) they look at me and actually like it. Mind you if I sucked they'd tell me, because you know, I have honest friends like that.

Well, I'm currently acclimating myself by posting in the Nationstates RP forum.
