'This' being the idea that Al and Strom share a common ancestor. And that Al's ancestors were owned by Strom's. Slavery in the South ended only about 150 years ago, so I don't get the astonishment.

Now Al is demanding a DNA test, I suspect there will be demands for an apology later, followed by some further demands for money.

On the other hand, how many more hits do you think Ancestry.com got today?

I think the only really "shocking" thing is that those particular two are connected--everyone knew that the Thurmonds owned slaves and that Sharpton was descended from slaves, but no one knew how close the connection might be. Now if they're genetically tied, that's a whole 'nother story.
