Death!

OK, it's time for a completely unscientific poll on NS General's attitudes towards death. Prizes given for the most creative attitude.

Poll coming momentarily

(OK, so I'm lying about the prizes. But LG would have won anyway, so what's the point in a contest?) :D

*awaits poll*

Your wait is over. You may now proceed to the polling station. Please remain behind the yellow line until it is your turn. The red zone is for loading and unloading only. There is no stopping in the white zone. Let's do the time warp again....

One of my friends is a first yea geneticist, and appears to strongly beleive that immortality is a possibility, and it will be possible to both stop and reverse the aging process of DNA in about 40 years time. The worrying thing is he usually follows up this belief by explaining to you (in long and boring detail) precicly how far the research has currently gotten (quite far supposedly, they have isolated what causes aging), and what needs to be done to advance this further.

So basically i have great hopes that i am not going to die, i will reach about the age of 60 and then will use this research to convert my DNA back to that of a 20 year old. I will then repeat every time i get a tincy bit wrinkly.

When you die, it's not really you in the coffin. There is a great world wide conspiracy with undertakers. They use your corpse to make a substance called 'Weird Juice'. They pour the juice into a giant hamster bottle, which millions of tiny plague infested hamsters drink. The 'Weird Juice' not only is made from human remains but steroids too. Now, then, this juice gives the hamsters a weird amount of strength, so they feel the need to run in their wheels all day. This wheel makes the world go around, and the fumes actually cause climate change. The undertakers are killing us all!

And you see, when you die, you contribute to climate change! It's all part of the undertaker's attempt to destroy the world! They've been working on it ever since the Black Plague!

:D

death is inevitable. I would prefer to stay alive until my children are adults, but don't want to live through my husband dying, because that would just suck.

I am pretty sure it's one of those things I don't control......so I try not to worry about it.

So, you're saying that the way to stop climate change is to live forever? :D

I'd rater avoid dying greatly, and the thought does scare me. Of course, my solution is to just ignore the problem. It's an inevitability, so why worry about something I can't stop?

Not if the undertakers have something to say about it! :p

There isn't shit I can do about it. Hopefully those geneticists will come up with a solution before I check out. If not, oh well.

Dude. Don't Fear The Reaper. *air guitar riff*

You might be a king
Or a little street sweeper,
But sooner or later
You'll dance with the reaper.

Since there's little you can do about death since it's part of life, I tend to try to not think about it and enjoy life while it lasts.

After all, everyone's born to die...

Ye gods, I hope not. What would you do? You'd not even have retirement to look forwards to, just work every day on a planet getting gradually fuller and fuller, and poorer and poorer, until everyone starves.

What fun that would be.

I'm scared of death, but much more scared of old age. I'd rather die in some heroic act at 50 than spend my last 20 years on a hospital bed.
