Vampire...

Somehow I have managed to become a vampire. It's 5 am EST and I can't sleep. A mixture of a headache, and weird sleeping schedule's for the past few days have rendered me unable to sleep at night, and exhausted during the day.

Does anyone else have difficulty keeping "normal" hours? What do you do to fall asleep? Are there any other vampires out there?

Not usually a problem for me; the only time I can remember was when I once took some BZP party pills and had insomnia for 24 hours (and nothing worked for that).

Otherwise, sex (either with another person or not) usually helps.

I stay up until 3AM, but I blame it on the Internet. :p

Maybe because im a girl but it takes a lot of sex to tire me out, and since im the only one in the room, i dont think that plan will work.

Mmmhm. I can't do it. Even if I force myself into a normal person's routine, I lapse back into being nocturnal. So I figure, bugger it - i'm only working part-time anyway and there's no real pressure for me to keep normal hours anyway (only when I work saturday mornings).

I've worked midnights for eight years. Sleeping at night is pure fail.

I haven't slept a wink for the last 16 days but I think you're supposed to die after 10 so I don't know what's going on.

I’ve been like this since I was a teenager –going on 15 years as a vampire now.

Different people have different natural sleeping patterns. Unfortunately most of us live in societies which are stuck on a diurnal cycle. There is no reason why we should not be able to function for all 24 hours.

If I do not have any time constraints, my natural tendency is to go to bed around 6am and sleep until about noon. That is the schedule that feels best to me and keeps me at my healthiest.

Unfortunately most offices expect you to be up and at your desk by 9am, not 2pm. I was on a 4pm to midnight shift that worked very well for me – it was my most productive time. Unfortunately by the time I got off work everything was shut down and everyone else was asleep. Fortunately I work for myself now, so I work roughly noonish till 7ish. That lets me fall asleep when I want to, but I get out early enough to go out with friends at night.

It would be great if there were a great little coffee shop where nocturnal people could gather. A 24-hour cyber café maybe. I think the major reason why people sometimes spend way too much time online is that they lack somewhere to go late at night. Back in college there was a café that was open late at night with comfy couches, tables with chess sets, bookshelves full of things to read (and even a take a book, leave a book section), that was a great meeting place for creatures of the night. They would occasionally organize poetry readings, trivia games, chess tournaments, book clubs, and all sorts of other activities late at night. If you were up at 3am and bored, you just headed down to the café where there would always be a few other people just hanging out.

No, just start drinking blood. You'd be surprised how quickly this problem goes away.

Between gigs I start to drift to nocturnal, so if I don't work for more than a week I'm going to bed at like 6-8am and waking up just before the sun goes down. I always hope that the next gig will be a bunch of night shoots and I'll already be set sleep wise, but that has yet to actually happen.

I prefer it, I'm more creative after midnight. If or when that side of me starts paying the bills I'll likely be like that most of the time.

Hm? No, not right now, but I seem to have an extremely easy time to fall into bad habits if I'm not careful.

Sleep is nice, so I hope it gets better :)

Nope, I'm a guy and it's the same for me.

A couple seconds into reading On the Embassy by Aeschines and I'm out like a brick.
