Ever use Warez?

Im not asking for links or anything like that, as it will get NS in trouble, but I was just wanting to see how many NSers have used Warez

Again, don't post links to warez, or the warez itself.

BTW, Warez is illegal software, such as a free copy of Windows Vista, example.

I have used warez..and still do :-p

I reckon I'll be caught someday...or not

Technically not. Some developers and publishers support the idea, releasing their works as freeware...others are ambivalent and turn a blind eye...and still others (such as EA) don't, and raise all sorts of hell over 20 year old software.

i have lots of programs where the free trial period has run out so i uninstall it and re-download the free trial. my virus checker was nabbed off the university and i have a feeling my MS office suite is a copy although that might have been on the old home pc. i've downloaded a couple of programmes off limewire too but they had viruses so i had to get rid.

this post might push the line, so i might have to edit it....

But, there are things you can google for that teach you to make cracks for free trial periods, where as it looks like you bought it. :)

I dont know with a bit of work can make it do anything I want ... personally seems to be a rather pointless upgrade but I have not honestly experienced any loss of productivity switching to it at work, and we use some pretty crazy and handwriten software

Yes. I haven't downloaded any pirated stuff in a while, though, mainly due to a lack of HD space. I have just got myself an external 400GB drive, though...;)

I found productivity increased when I ditched Windows all together. My house has only Linux and Mac OS 9.

Depends for what I am doing, you know how much of an avid fan of *nix I am but when you are dealing with an all windows work environment that can not change and you are developing for that environment it is not an option

To tell you the truth, having Windows would make what piece of homework I am working on easier. I'm doing an class diagram and need a tool as crappy as paint to get anything done. So far, documenting this program has taken at least twice as long as coding the damned thing.

yeah I mean when I am doing networking stuff I would not touch windows ... I am trying to write a VB application to automatically configure a wireless network card on 200 + student laptops ...

I pirated Photoshop 7.0 a few years back when it came out, but I ended up deleting it cause I had no real use for it.

I'm a big emulator fan though. Rocking the GBA and SNES haha. Trust me, I've supported Nintendo in the past and Sony in the past/present far enough ot morally justify it.

Hate to say it but viseo's database extractor with ODBC driver has saved my ass reverse engineering databases, except for wiki, so efficient but no referential iintegrity makes for a messy diagram

So one time I actually, honestly lost my manual for one of my games, and the manual had the CD key. So after being unable to find it during a reinstall, I unwisely did a google search for a key cracker. The file I found infected my computer so badly with viruses and spy ware that it took more than a month to get it clean.

I have legit Windows XP 64-bit Edition.
I also have a legit Total Commander copy and own quite some games. I usually buy stuff that I really like (and ain't as expensive as a Ferrari) but unfortunately there hasn't been any release worth buying lately.

I had quite an issue with Sacred, bought the game a few months ago and it wouldn't run on XP 64-bit. But I previously had a pirated copy which worked. So I downloaded the crack for it and it worked fine. Turned out that it was the copy protection software (embedded in the game) which was not running properly. Quite ironical :)
So now I have a legit Sacred copy and I play it cracked. Oddly enough :)

But I have other pirated programs too.
As soon as I give up gaming, I'll switch t Linux. I have Ubuntu Server installed on my second computer and am building an online game on it. THAT computer is piracy-free :)

Well, considering this version of Windows is pirated, and this version of WindowBlinds, Photoshop 7.0, MSOffice, Sibelius 3.... No, of course not, I would never not pay for anything....

Hmm, maybe I should edit this post to not disclose so much information about me...

Everything I do online is completely legal.
I never do, look at, participate in, or download anything illegal.
Of course if I were the type of person that did illegal things, I would also be the kind of person that lies.

So what you are infering is that the whole post was a lie, and that everything you do online is illegal?

I personally like to vary the legality of my intertube actions. I don't us Warez though.

Now now =D I would never say that.
I was merely stating that if I were the kind of person that did illegal things, I would also lie about it. But that doesn't mean I am lying, does it? Or maybe I am? I dunno. I'm a good honest person, aren't I?:D

Abandonware, mostly. OpenOffice means I don't have to pirate MS Office (as much), I've got enough money now to afford all the games I want, even if I don't have enough time to play them, and I even have a legit copy of Windows ().

Now if only I could find a copy of Visual Studio 6 Pro at a reasonable price, I'd (get work to) buy that. But I can't, ho hum.

Shame you can't pirate hardware :(

You can. They call it "theft".

Yeah, but that's the difference, isn't it.
I wouldn't get annoyed if somebody copied my work (unless they made money from it and didn't share), but I would be annoyed if they nicked my hard disk.

It's just like pirating in that you're not breaking the law if you don't get caught, but unlike pirating... if you get caught you aren't fined to your gills. You're fined for whatever you stole, plus another fine for stealing, plus a possible SHORT stint in jail, unless you're a repeat offender.

Then again... people rarely (by percentage) get caught pirating anything. It's almost like it's become overlooked or that nobody cares. Like a problem swept under the rug =o Does this mean more people should do it?

Hmmm....
It's best to steal from outlet stores in that case.
Wal-Mart (or was it K-Mart?) no longer files a charge against you for theft of goods under $20. This is due to the cost of charging you with it. They will of course ban you from ever entering their store again, which may really ruin your future shopping experience... but if you can get away with it.. *shrugs* It's not like Wal-Mart in particular hasn't screwed a few people over.

How much are SD Cards? :D lol

the difference is that it isn't copying. When I steal software the people that gave it to me still have it.
