Taste and smell are the same sense. As far as I know, you can't lose one and not the other.

That's not completely true. there are actually two senses that make up taste: the parts of your tongue that detect sweet, sour, bitter, salty, and what have you, and the part that is also smell. If someone had burned their tongue badly, they might have lost a portion of their sense of taste.

But if you lose your sense of smell, such as when you have a cold, nothing tastes as good, so you can't really lose one without the other.

You still keep a very basic sense of taste that is based entirely on your taste buds. It rather sucks as hot (as in both spicy and temperature) will render you without a sense of taste as burn all the taste buds off your tounge.

That's odd - when I was growing up (or, to be more accurate, failing to grow up) my neighbour was anosmic. He'd had an operation to remove a lump from inside his nose, and it had left him with no sense of taste or smell. I mean, none at all.

Since there are obviously various things that can cause of anosmia, perhaps it can take different forms. Like a lot of blind people can actually see some things, in some limited circumstances.

What about all the other senses? There are about 21. eg - posisection - the sense that allows you to know (with your eyes closed) exactly where each of your limbs are (cloe your eyes and move your hand - you still know where it is).

Sense of hunger - can be affected by Prada Willis syndrome...

etc, etc....

And what about the sense of humor?

I'm not sure what the name for that is but it may have its origins in Alabama when confronted with a pickup truck with 'Man Love Rules O.K' written on the side. It might be called 'I'mgettingtheboysia'

Well everything tastes different, but that's not the same thing.

I constantly have a stuffy nose and diminished sense of smell. Sometimes my nose clears up for a little while and stuff I used to like becomes suddenly unappealing. Not bad, I just don't really want to eat or drink it. Mostly drink.

Good thing too, because otherwise I don't think I could drink those otherwise nasty hot lemon drinks when I have a cold.

Or possibly afterwards, when fearing for lives after this incident it could be called
'ManwithcameraphonehavetovideotheharrowinglynarrowescapeoftheTopGearpresenterscameramenandothers'

But i prefer your one.

So do I. Yours just gave me a mild headache. :) :headbang:

"Time keeps slipping away" - either that or I am a precog.
