That is awesome. And it sounds like my grandfather.

Dont assume that elderly americans are easy targets. 3 muggers attacked a tour bus full of US tourists coming from a cruise ship. one didnt survive, 2 fled the scene reportedly in tears.
tour bus of U.S. senior citizens defended themselves against a group of alleged muggers, sending two of them fleeing and killing a third in the Atlantic coast city of Limon, police said yesterday. One of the tourists -- a retired member of the U.S. military aged about 70 -- put assailant Warner Segura in a head lock and broke his clavicle after the 20-year-old and two other men armed with a knife and gun held up their tour bus Wednesday, said Luis Hernandez, the police chief of Limon, east of San Jose. The two other men fled when the 12 senior citizens started defending themselves. The tourists then drove Segura to the Red Cross where the man was declared dead. The tourists left on their Carnival cruise after the incident and Chief Hernandez said authorities do not plan to press any charges against them, saying they acted in self defence. "They were in their right to defend themselves after being held up," the chief said.

Better yet, get the threads merged if you're going to go to this much trouble.
This is a really popular topic! Not that I can blame anyone for wanting to post it again, it really is an awesome story. :)

Oy, right in the clavicle.

I don't see how killing someone, even in self-defence, can possibly be considered "awesome". The word that springs to mind is "tragic". Unless someone here is sick enough to suggest death is a legitimate punishment for attempted theft.
If they had simply given them a good scare and set them on the run, it would indeed have been "awesome".
Note that I'm not saying the elderly people acted in an inappropriate way at all. But describing a person's death as a good thing is revolting.

ya know, if youre not going to use a thread title that indicates what the thread is about, you cant blame people for posting on the same topic.
old people just arent as old as they used to be.

The fact that the attack happened is also a good reason people should carry guns to protect themselves even though this group did OK this time.

Its funny that you quote me for this, because my grandfather is the last person I would trust with a firearm. His biceps are wider than his neck and we've had to pick him up from the grey bar hotel on occasion.

Because tourists in Costa Rica were attacked, everyone should carry guns?
I'd forgotten how bizarre your sense of "logic" is...

The word that springs to mind is "tragic".
Yes, it is tragic that three young men decided to attack a group of seniors who are an easy target because they have a lot of trouble defending themselves. It is awsome that this group of seniors were able to fend of the attack of these young punks.
Unless someone here is sick enough to suggest death is a legitimate punishment for attempted theft.
The senior citizens were probably in fear of their lives. They knew they were not strong enough as individuals to ward of an attack that would most likely result in serious injury or even death to themselves. So, they banned together to ward off the attack and defend themself. So what is your problem?
Attack me or my wife and you might get shot. We don't know if you want to kill us, rob us, or both so we will defend ourselves with whatever force is necessary. Why the hell do you feel sorry for someone who gets killed preying on people who normally can not defend themselves?
If they had simply given them a good scare and set them on the run, it would indeed have been "awesome".
And how were they supposed to scare them? I'm sure they weren't wearing any ghost costumes so saying BOO wouldn't work.

i dont believe youre allowed to take a gun on a cruise ship and probably not into costa rica either
crossing the mexican border with a gun in your car can get you a significant prison sentence in a mexican prison *shudder*
its best to leave the guns at home.

You can make prior arrangements to take a gun to Mexico to attend a shooting event, but they won't let you carry it on the street.
Just a bit of paperwork.

Good reason for every country to have a "carry law."

I wonder how many others these punks victimized before they met the wrong guy?
This old guy turned opportunist predators into prey-he grabbed the fucker by the neck and choked him to death, even though the scumbag had a gun and he had two buddies-at least one of them had a knife.
This is one group of scumbags that likely wont victimize innocents again.
With the one,its guaranteed we wont have to worry about him again.
The other two cowardly pussies will probably think twice before the consider targeting what appears to be an easy mark.
I love to see the tables turned on violent opportunists. Fuck 'em.

Remember da Second World War II. Killed a lot of nazi, but saved the rest.

Let's keep the distinction between persons (which have their personality, individuality, role) and the common residue trash. Disposal of latter improves the overall system efficiency, and reduces the number of persons' deaths.
