I'm not Catholic, so I don't really care about Lent. Funnily enough, neither do any of the French people I know around here.

If I gave up something, I'd be taking the "lapsed" out of the "catholic". Can't be having that.

Not in Milan or elsewhere in the Ambrosian Church! Here Lent begins next Sunday, we have the Sabato Grasso tomorrow!
35 days of Lent instead of 40.
I gave up Catholicism for lent when I was about 13. :)

I'm going to try not to express as much anger at my brother about all the annoying things he does and I'm going to try to be nicer to both of my brothers (I made him eggs this morning for breakfast since it's Friday and thus no meat.:) )

In a few weeks I'll be forced to give up NS, not for Lent though, but because I'll be on a dial-up connection for two months.
Jolt on broadband is painful enough, I can't imagine it on dial-up.

I don't participate in Lent, I find it represents everything I dislike about the Catholic Church.
When I fast, I do because I feel I need to, not because "everyone else is doing it", and I don't tend to tell people, because I am not trying to prove a point to the world, it's something between me and God.

Mmm, pancakes. Wait... did I have pancakes this year? I remember buying lunch for someone on Tuesday and they chose pancakes... no wait... that was earlier... yes I did have pancakes. I was round at the friend-who-chose-pancakes' house and we made pancakes... but from 'batter mix'. Does that count? It's not like he was getting rid of any excess eggs, butter or sugar. He did 'make' some caramel though, but he ended up heating the sugar for too long and it from all the way from caramel stage to toffee stage. Toffee pancakes are bizarre.

its no slower than anything else on dialup
it harks back to the last century when the (net) world moved at a slower pace and we had time to think our posts through and even re-read them as we waited for the server to accept them

Even though I'm no longer Catholic, every year I want to participate in Lent anyway. Inevetiably I forget, then Ash Wednesday passes and I've missed my favorite part.
Actually, it's not really the Lent I miss, it's the Ash Wednesday. I like that mass and I like walking around all day with that ash smudge on my forehead.

Lent with that fasting (one meal a day) and abstinence (no meat) will kill me.
I like to eat... meat. Sorry.
