Like G.W Bush and Sharon before him, the Israeli defence Minister gets caught out by a quick thinking photographer.

Israeli newspapers have printed photos of Defence Minister Amir Peretz trying to watch military manoeuvres through binoculars with the lens caps still on.
Mr Peretz was inspecting troops in the Golan Heights with the Israeli army's new chief of staff, Gen Gabi Ashkenazi.

According to the photographer, Mr Peretz looked through the capped binoculars three times, nodding as Gen Ashkenazi explained what was in view.

Poor fella.

It's very telling, and I think, somewhat symptomatic of the way we govern ourselves. See rather than taking the time to understand what's going on around him, he's simply a figure head being paid to be in a certain place at a certain time, hoping it'll justify him pushing opinions that aren't his own, on shit he knows fuck-all about.

It could be Ted Tubes or any other of a hundred thousand politicians.

They'll probably claim it's a 'simple mistake' anyone can make. As if looking through binoculars and seeing nothing but black would be something you'd do without realizing something was wrong.

Look at it this way, like all the aforementioned, they're primarily responsible for a great big boatload off human suffering, along with their dance partners of the month, assorted terrorists. Everything associated with them in the public eye seems to be gloom and doom and what have you.

Seeing them being stupid makes the world seem a little bit fairer.

Pretty much. To me the middle east seems like a place where people kill each other for oil and arguments over whose imaginary freind said they could live in a certain place. In a perfect world good people would do good things and evil people would do evil things. For good people to do evil you need religion.

All this eye for an eye shit gets tiring. Let them all kill each other.

All this eye for an eye shit gets tiring. Let them all kill each other. There is a major difference, however. The one side is just trying to finally live in peace after centuries of foreign rule and revert with their day-to-day lives as the friendly people they have always been, and on the other side are the intruding Jews, always lusting for land, riches and military power. Arabs still wonder why they were punished by the West which just dumped its Jews problem into the Middle East. Only on the Jewish side this conflict has anything to do with religion and the idiotic claim of closeness, the Arab side has always just wanted to remain on their soil undisturbed. This is not about eye for an eye, this is about correcting the error that was made when Jews were not prevented from getting a state.

Whatever. I'm tired of hearing about the whole sorry business. The word won't lose any great minds if the whole region dissapeared into a hole in the ground. 'The freindly people they have always been' - with a bomb belt. Christ - I should invite them over - they sound like a blast.

Bomb belts are only the final expression of despair over the inability to do anything effective against the Western intrusion. Jews have obviously made Palestinian Arabs' lives so worthless that they see death as the better alternative. And looking at what Jews have done there in the last 60 years that perspective is understandable. Would you want to live under the military control of the selfstyled chosen people?

Well, I guess I could point out that Israeli newspapers are free to mock and ridicule their leaders, whereas an Egyptian blogger was jailed for four years for insulting the President and Islam a couple of days ago.

I'd rather leave this as a humour thread though so I'm not going to get sucked into a debate. :p

They'll probably claim it's a 'simple mistake' anyone can make. As if looking through binoculars and seeing nothing but black would be something you'd do without realizing something was wrong.Maybe... I've always had trouble looking through telescopes and binoculars. I do, however, remember to take the lens caps off... what I have trouble with is positioning my eyes so I can see the image properly. Maybe it's because one of my eyes is much more dominant than the other. I dunno... and sometimes I can see my eyelashes when I look through binoculars. I probably get to close to the lens and then my eyes squint because their too close and then focused light shines on my eyelashes. Probably.

I don't have to think about all this living under military control of a selfstyled chosen people. Like I said they can all kill each other for all I care. As for the bomb belts - after they go off the wearer's problems are over. Not so for their 'people' they leave behind. As a parting gift an airstrike is not something I would leave in my will.

Most powerful? Hardly.

Honestly, I bet he realised that the caps were on, but decided to just pretend they weren't to avoid looking even stupider by trying to unscrew them while he should be troop inspecting. Its a calculated risk, but I'm sure loads of other politicians must get away with similar gaffes.

Maybe it was a simple mistake, maybe the photographer took a quick snap before this general looked into the binoculars long enough to recognize "hey the cap is still on". Secondly, how long did the photographer wait before he decided to publish this picture? & what was the motivation factor in publishing this photo now?
