This is sounding like very good news to me. I've been saying for a while that the Dems had every intention to act, and that it just wasn't as easy as people think, and it looks like I was right. Good news indeed.

Still, just a first step, and the Loyal opposition will do its duty and try to prevent it from coming to vote (which will, interestingly enough, kill the Republicans in '08, if they don't stop soon). Combine this with the Obama bill to withdraw troops by '08 and the Murtha stop for the escalation, and it looks like the Iraq mess won't trouble us for too much longer.

I'm a Democrat, and I have this question:

How will it hurt them in 08?

2/3rds of Americans want this war over within the next 2 years. If the Republicans keep stopping the Dems from ending this war, it will hurt Republicans in the Senate who have Presidential hopes, and it will hurt Republicans in swing districts.

That's why Snowe and Collins voted to debate the House Iraq Resolution, because they know they can't survive the next election if they toe their party line.

Good point. Voting record comes back to haunt you.

Which is what will kill John Edwards.

Which, given the obnoxious sanctimonious crowd which his campaign is trying to sell itself too right now, doesn't fill me with much grief, to be honest. He's depending on a crowd too alike to the Kucinich types for him to stand a chance in the primaries.

That's a pity, of course, because I was actually quite pleased with his announcement and I almost fell in line behind him as a candidate, until Obama came along.

Ah, I take it this is a manifestation of the Democrats' "political solution" over "military solution"? (Which is odd, seeing as how war is just politics of a different avenue.) Well, it will be interesting to watch the Democrats' strategy fail just like the Republicans'.

War is politics with guns. however, that still is a significant difference.

Nah, that just makes war a category of politics.

Edit: Though I suppose that all politics is essentially made of force. After all, people probably wouldn't pay taxes, follow regulations, etc. if the government didn't punish them for not obeying.
