Well, I admire his initiative of gettign a sword and get to crime fighting. Of course, you do end up looking silly when you're the only one commiting a crime..
And I bet he forgot his cape. But, still. His neighbours should feel safer in knowing that if they cry for help, they can expect a sword to back them up.

Really? :p
This raises a rather concerning questions:
What kind of porn was it to be confused with rape?

Honestly, he was silly. He should have called the cops...if this was a real situation, a real rape in progress...it's good that he would want to intervene...but the guy, had he actually BEEN a rapist could have had a gun, or who knows what.
It does make you wonder what kind of porn the guy was watching that would have a woman screaming for help though. Ewww.

Ahh.. ok. yeah the dude should pay for the door then. I figured I missed something. I'm just glad he didn't slash anyone with his Holy Sword. The guy will probably never intervene again after this. Not really. He wasn't looking to look like a drug dealer or some badass Matrix hero... he was looking (foolishly) to stop what he THOUGHT was a criminal assault.
Me, I'd have banged on ANOTHER door and asked a neighbor to call 911 before pounding on Porn-boy's door and demanding to know what was going on... the delay while we argued through the door should be long enough for the cops to get there.

Yeah, politician IS a bad word. What I meant was , is that you will one day be able to manipulate law.. I mean manipulate people with the law. And I don't see that as a bad thing on your end, if your intentions to help your people are true. I commend you for that. I'm not being sarcastic. You are very articulate, and as long as you keep the faith/passion ...you will bring forth changes. And going into school for that purpose, I don't see many at all doing. Most of us.. in the US.. IMO. are just too comfortable. We allow the crooks(that we middle/lower classes bitch about) to take over ..by our inaction. In an apartment building, a sword is still effective due to the close quarters. Granted, if Mr. rapist has a submachine gun, then you're screwed, but that situation wouldn't change regardless of the weapon you had, as long as he noticed you first.

I honestly don't understand why you guys are making fun of the guy who stormed in.
From my perspective, his actions were honorable. He thought a crime was occuring, and he couldn't contact the police. Therefore, he took action into his own hands. What if a rape had been occuring and he did nothing? Then he would have looked far worse than he does now.
I heard about this from another forum, and such I didn't read the article the OP posted. But the article I read said the sword was a family heirloom, which is why he had it. His actions were good, and it's a shame we don't have more people like him. And I'm being deadly serious.

That guy could have found a phone to call 911 (neighbors maybe?). Its great that he wanted to protect the woman he thought was being raped and all but that is what the police are for. It would give them something to do rather than sit around and wait for people to drive through their little dunghole town going a little to fast. Yeah, I'm talking about you Leon, KS, and your BS 50 mile an hour speed limit on a highway that's a good 250 ft from any part of your town. Heck, there are towns that are right next to highways that don't drop the speed limit. I hope you spend that $110 wisely, but it'll probably just go to donuts for the sheriff and his little gay deputy that had to come help him search my truck for drugs. Yeah, they searched my truck. I was cooperative and polite the entire time and didn't even get upset or object to him searching the truck. But I guess he thought he might need back up to deal with my non-violent a$$. Meanwhile some guy was probably brewing meth behind the police station the whole time they were harrassing me. Sorry, went on a bit of a tangent there (Leon, KS Sucks). Anyway my main point is you can't just go busting into people's houses playing Zorro. It's good to be concerned but if he hadn't had any reason to suspect his neighbor of this kind of thing before, and the article even said he barely knew the guy, then he should have handled his suspicions with a little more delicacy. I think this guy watched Pulp Fiction one too many times. If he busted in on me while I was trying to get off and threatened me with a sword I'd be pretty ticked off no matter what he thought he heard.

Consider the fact he lives with his mother.
The probability of him being a virgin is ridicoulosly high...:p He probably still goes to the park saying 'mommy what are those doggies doing?'
I'm surprised that he can be charged with criminal offenses, I always thought that for an act to be criminal it required evil intent, or at the very least callous negligance.
Based on what is in the article I hope the jury lets him off - though if more comes out I may change my mind.
Why the doubt? There is plenty of porn out there that simulates rape...and some that actually depicts real rapes.
While I agree that there is plenty of that stuff out there - the article says the guy played the porno to the police - and given that he is not being arrested I think we can assume that they are sure the porno was not real rape (which would be illegal - the 'porn' as well as the rape).

Yeah, but this guy wasn't paid to be a rent-a-cop. He did it of his own initiative. Which is somewhat commendable, even if he did get the wrong idea. Our local police are about as effective as wet tissue paper and are about as straight as an unrolled ball of yarn.
At least it gives rise to a more vigilante conscious crowd. Although legally wrong, I somewhat approve whenever I read of a snatch thief being caught by a crowd and beaten to a pulp before the cops apprehend him. Since the cops are generally too lazy to do anything about snatch thieves anyway.

I meant the one in the kidnapping case you were talking about.
Sorry, vigilantism=bad.

Well, it's either that or a vague presence of law enforcement that doesn't really do much other than ask for bribes whenever they can and doesn't do anything to stop crime.
That's the reality of it.
I mean, you know what the local police tell victims of snatch theft, assault and rape? "Forget making the report. We're not likely to catch them"

Then you should elect someone who'll do something about it. Simple.

What kind of porn was it to be confused with rape?

And for pete's sake, get something more damaging than a sword!
Perhaps his sword does 2d8+5 damage, +10 against rapists.
Get this:
'[...] he never threatened the neighbor with the sword. "I had the sword extended, but that was all," he said.'
Note to self - when smashing your way into neighbour's flat whilst holding a sword, make sure the sword is only 'extended', or he might feel threatened.
Then you should elect someone who'll do something about it. Simple. That has its place, which is not for all situations.
"Someone stole my bag!"
"Shit! Let's call an election so we can do something about it!"

"Someone stole my bag!"
"Shit! Let's call an election so we can do something about it!"
Or "Someone stole my bag!"
"Call the cops, now that we elected Mr. X the police force kicks ass"

apparently this guy thought it was. And FYI, if you don't want your door kicked in, don't play your porn loudly.

Uh...what the fuck? (Yeah, I realize the irony in that statement)

I would at least make him pay for the damage to the door.
Next time, drop it from 80, Tex.

*pictures a drive-by shooting carried out with longbows*
You laugh, but I have actually pointed my bow at people (once).
My brother drove a tricked out behemoth with a stereo that could have been heard on Mars (which I hated, btw). One night I hear him yelling outside, and look -- and there are five guys with screwdrivers and knives out there around him and his car. They got the stereo; my stupid brother ran into the midst of them to try to stop them, and they were threatening him.
I ran upstairs, got my recurve out of the closet, strung it, grabbed the quiver and ran to the front bedroom, threw up the window, nocked an arrow and yelled, "Get in your fucking car and leave now."
They turn and one yells, "Or what?"
I leaned out and drew the string back to my ear and said, "Or you find out how good a shot I am."
They decided to leave rather than find out whether or not I sucked. (At the time, I did.)
My brother couldn't resist getting in his last licks -- as they ran to their car, he grabbed a glass orange juice bottle out of our trash and when they passed him, smashed their windshield. Considering they got his stereo, I guess it was deserved, though stupid, and they were slamming on the brakes to turn around, at which point I yelled at him, "Get your ass in here before I shoot YOU."
That's the only time I've pointed it at anything living and if I go the rest of my life without having to do that again, it will be very damned good.

Actually I was laughing at the thought of the bow being far too large to use properly in the car.
Still, way to kick ass Kat.
