In response to the most historical moment thread. Who was the person that altered history the most, in your educated opinion?

I'd say the prophet Jesus of Nazareth or Hammurabi

Yep. In fact, if Carthage had emerged the winner, we'd be living in a very different world. How would the spread of Christianity have turned out, with no Roman Empire? And since Carthage tended to use mercenaries for its foreign wars, chances are they woudn't have been in a position to form a major empire of their own - leaving the other people of western Europe to develop independently. Profound consequences for many countries.

To hell with this, I need sleep.

Without Abraham to alternately plagiarise and libel, Christ would have been just another brain-dead hippy and Mohammed another irritable warlord.
But I'm going to say William H. Harrison, greatest US President ever.

Eleanor of Aquitane.

In a male dominated period she was "...an indefatigable woman of enormous intelligence and titanic energy." Queen of France and later of England, she was the mother of both Richard the Lionhearted and King John. And without the latter, there wouldn't have been the Magna Carta. It can be truly said she changed the course of european history and western civilization. Everyone else just re-arranged the deck chairs...

I was going to say Abraham, but I have to agree that the person that invented agriculture has to be closer to the top world-wide. I've been reading "Guns, Germs, and Steel". It's about why some cultures came to dominate other peoples and it all goes back to who had the most food and most domesticated animals first.

Jesus and Mohammed in the Religion field..

Napoleon and Alexander on the Military/stateman.

so my list goes like this:

1 Jesus
2 Mohammed
3 Napoleon
4 Alexander
BongDong

1 Jesus
2 Mohammed

I would place Christ below Muhammad actually. For one thing, it is dubious that a Jesus as described in Christianity existed in the first place, and even if he did it most certainly wasnt him who wrote the Bible. IMO the apostles deserve far more credit for Christianity than Jesus, and the Roman Empire deserve credit for its spread. Muhammad however, dictated the Quran himself and actively used Military force to spread Islam, and the Caliphs who extended the Islamic empire did so under Muhammads explicit orders.

My list would go:

1) Muhammad
2) Julius Caesar
3) Chalres Darwin
4) Lenin
5) Leon Trotsky
6) Adolf Hitler+Joseph Stalin. Tied.
