The next league event is the draft, but you should start ranking players before that. That means you need to start looking at the player's stats -- And that we need to finalize a set of stats that will be used to determine the rankings.

I think there were two NS leagues last year too...

I've found it makes watching baseball more fun when you're really concerned about that next K, G3, or HR. There's a lot of tips on Yahoo Fantasy, the rules are especially important.

I did try to outsmart the computer and I finished in the loser's bracket. Maybe I'll just go with the computer rankings, then look for the good rookies that emerge later in the season.

Well, I got lucky in that regard. Who knew David Wright was going to be a monster 3B last year? The computer, apparently. And I picked up Dan Uggla simply because my 2B wasn't doing anything and I heard his press early, as I live down here.

I updated the league and added some stat categories.

Slugging and Errors for batters.
Innings Pitched and Ks/walks for pitchers.

How 'bout a couple more teams? Anyone? We need at least 10.

Anyway, if I can join, I'd like my team to be called the LCC Vipers. Just off the top of my head.

BTW, as far as statistics go, I'd really like to see on base percentage used as well. Its a really big determining factor as far as the value of a player is and how consistent they are. If whipping-boy Barry Bonds hit 75 HRs in 750 at bats and nothing else, his Slugging pct. would be great but his obp would be mediocre.

Fielding Pct. is another nice stat because its a pretty good sign if a player is good in the field or not. Id go into a lot of details, but i know its already tough enough.

OBP is good. And I like the idea of evening out the hitting/fielding a little. What do you want to eliminate in order to add fielding?

I'll bump this a couple more times before Saturday and I'd like to get ten or more teams.

I would suggest doing an auto draft instead of a live one. People just rank their preferences, and then at a set time, Yahoo will draft teams for everyone based on their rankings. A live draft, with that many teams and positions to fill, will take forever.

Oh, and I'd add two more categories each: OBP and errors for position players and losses and holds for pitchers. Holds is an excellent one, because it gives some value to middle relievers. Otherwise, the only ones worth jack are starters and closers.

It's the trash talk that goes on during the draft that is fun. It does take around 45-60 minutes to get past the rounds people care about, then folks start dropping out. You always have the option of letting the computer make your choices in the live draft.

Having run leagues for the past six years, I've found that using errors works better.

Errors is a much better stat than fielding percentage for this, imo. It'd be cool for me if this wasn't head to head, both of my other teams are head to head and diversity is good. I love holds. I'd also much rather have a live draft, but my players are all ranked anyway so I could go either way.

My preference for head-to-head is because I would rather have accumulated wins and losses than have accumulated stats. That way trades, acquisitions, bad weeks, etc, can work their way out of the totals. Making substitutions for idle players is another factor that can work for you, or against you, depending on how actively you manage the team.

Clu, make your pitch, then let's poll the owners. This is basic, so let's get it done before we start modifying the stat categories.
