If the true order of the universe was explained to you, which 5 explanations (the religion it describes) would it make you happiest?

And what would be the worse?

Poll... *gulp* incoming.

If {insert holy figure here} came from the sky and told you what the correct religion was, which answer would make you happiest?

Polytheism with a Liberation Theology twist.

Or just atheism. Whatever.

A kind of extremely liberal Judeo-Christian.

That's why I put monotheist. Because that entails anything else with one god.

(And, personally, I'd find that one god would be easier to deal with than two of ten... even in a Zoroasterist monotheism (almost like bitheism, but with a god and a Satan figure...))

how come calvinism is not part of judeo-chrisitian? and what's with lumping jews and christians, but not muslims?

anyway, some sort of animism or nothing for me.

I see, I see. Though which holy figure would proclaim atheism as true?

Anyhoo, I’d appreciate Eris popping over to my flat for a cup of tea and a hot dog, telling me to not believe a word she said, then disappearing in a puff of chaos.

Calvinism believes in predestination, a concept which alters the universe in its entirety.

And Judaism and Christianity are lumped because they are very similar; however, Islam is a monotheist Bedouin tradition mashed up with Judaism and Christianity in some parts

In all fairness, Islam is probably more like Judaism then Judaism is like Christianity.

a) Hinduism is not polytheistic. Saying Hinduism is polytheistic is like saying most mainstream Christian sects are because of the belief in the trinity.

b) re your question: pretty large chunks of the true order of the universe has been described to me and to everyone else on this planet who cares to listen, and it has nothing to do with religion or the lack there-of. There are no Gods outside our own human perspectives (note that this does not mean there are no Gods).

I know I would be. The voices in my head have been snubbing me ever since they formed a clique and decided I wasn't cool enough to be in it.

I'd like to live in Buddhism or Platonism: I can do whatever I want and the only consequence is that, when I die, I get reincarnated as a human again. People who make themselves miserable because they believe that this life and their flesh are torments to be escaped are silly.

Which religion is the ideal religion?
The right one.
Deciding which one is right is, of course, up to you.
Its sort of like gambling, only the stakes are a bit higher.

perhaps it'd be more of a temperal flux anomaly wotsit so we could all see what these mystical people in the fairytales were really all about. i mean, if we could go back in time to meet abraham, moses, jesus, buddha, mohammed and all the rest, and found out that they were all actually unsuccessful science-fiction writers who thought they could make more money by starting religions it'd be pretty funny, don't you think?

id be fine with finding out that roman catholicism is the one true religion of this supreme being. mostly because im up on the rules and know how to cheat the system.

i would be gobsmacked and extremely disappointed to find out that it was scientology. think of the money i would have to put out in order to get right with it!

Figments of my imagination talk to me all the time, as that's part of the point to imagination: imagining talking to other people or hearing people talk for one reason or another.

As for me...if I had to choose something...oh wait, atheism IS a choice! Well fuck religion then, I'mma go with reality.

I picked Atheism as it was the best option on the poll.

Why did you not include Pastafarianism? I mean heaven has stripper factories and beer volcanos as far as the eye can see. If the FSM was to come out of the closet and tell everyone, I'd be committing suicide on the spot.

More importantly: under standard Hindu religious "law" (I use the quotes because it's not the law anywhere, just the codified rules of the religion...I can't think of an adequate analog in western religion for the life of me even though I should be able to rather quicky) you can't actually convert into Hinduism. You're more than welcome to convert out of it, though you technically never actually leave the Church, and people still tend to treat you like you're still with them.

In a way, Hindu proselytization policy is the exact polar opposite to Jehovah's Witnesses.

And really, all the learning about Hindu history is generally a cultural thing. You can be a fully practicing Hindu and you wont be looked askance at if you can't recite the name of every God (there are quite a few more than the west is aware of) It's much more about acting the part than knowing the literature.

Which is why I'm a shitty former Hindu.

Also, leather jackets are really warm. Who knew wearing a dead sacred animal could feel so good?

You'd be surprised. There are, literally, thousands of Hindus in my county. Every holiday we rent out a local high school on the weekend nights for garbas (dances of a sort) and other functions.

Oh, and there's a wide selection of Indian food to be had here, including that "fusion" stuff.

But that would be honest, and Christianity is 1300 years past honesty.

Honest Christian Judaism (the sect version where Jesus was a prophet) was nice.
