Oh John McCain how I loved you so...

I think the time for me to support John has passed. In 2000 I fully supported him over the thief who slandered and swift boated him at every turn. Back then John was truly a maverick, a moderate who brought reason to my Republican party. Now McCain has been courting the likes of Jerry Falwell whome he called "the most destructive and devisive element in America today." I went with him on that. He support the surge in Iraq and wants it to be bigger which made me start to sour. Albeit, I would rather see a huge surge than a small surge that would do relatively nothing. Now he has come out and said, "I believe Roe V. Wade should be overturned." Unless he's saying it knowing it will never happen to dupe the "rabid right" the I am done with John McCain. This Repubican/Libertarian officially has no signle candidate to back from the party I once loved. Say it aint so Jonnie, say it aint so...

Thoughts on this statement and McCain pull to the (dark side) rabid right?

Oh, please. You could see it coming a mile away. It's the old Republican credo: "When in doubt, bash the women and the fags." Used to contain bashing niggers, too, but they can't do that openly any more.

I already disliked him when I was a Republican, long long ago.

I thought McCain represented the token moderate classical conservative who resents the Christian domination of the party. I mean the Repubs honestly must be delusional if they think rabid rightists can win them the election.

In all fairness, McCain's abortion stance has always been "it should be illegal for everyone but the rich folks who can pay a doctor enough to make an exception." On this front, at least, he's been consistent.

His speech in front of the creationists at the Discovery Institute, however, is really pathetic.

Sure they can--they just call it "welfare reform" and "set-asides" and "affirmative action" now.

...um...were you paying attention in the last election? I seem to recall Bush's stance on issues like abortion and gay marriage swinging a lot of votes his way.
And it backfired on them in 2006. Look at Kansas and see what happens when the mouth-breathers are in control for too long--moderate Republicans started switching parties in droves, and it just might get their governor a VP slot in 2008.

Fair enough, though in some parts of the country (like Mississippi), you can be pretty open about it, associating with openly racist groups and winning in a landslide. About the only thing you can't do is drop the n-bomb in public.

In my shameful state of not being American, I missed out on that one. Currying favour with the ID crowd, eh?

Tacky.

I'm sorry, mouth-breathers? I don't understand what that is supposed to be referring to.

Now? The only thing I have to say is that there are few things sadder than an old whore.

noty exactly true. Read his speeches from 1999 where he says that he supports a women's right to choose.

I think it harkens back to the notion of slack-jawed idiot, one who was too stupid to keep his mouth closed less he start catching flies that way.

Given that most of the year I am so stuffed up with hay-feaver I can't breathe though my nose I find it more than slightly insulting.

And here I was thinking it had to do with the fact that the nose is a filter and those who only breath through their mouths are too stupid to use their nose and thus inhale pollutants and other harmful substances that affect their brain thus making them even more idiotic.

Or something like that.

noty exactly true. Read his speeches from 1999 where he says that he supports a women's right to choose.

It's a case of his talk not matching his voting record. His voting record says he's anti-abortion--he voted to seat Bork on the SCOTUS, and that would have gotten Roe overturned 15 years ago, ad he's ever seen an abortion restriction bill he didn't vote for. What he really meant in those speeches is that he supports the right for women with money to choose, and the rest can go fuck themselves.

I lost all faith in the man when he took part in the "compromise" that lead to the Military Commissions Act of 2006. I would not be unhappy if every person who backed that bill was sentenced to hanging for treason against American ideals.

McCain? I thought he was interesting till the elections. The Shrub made some rather rude comments about McCains military career and McCain was there hugging him like a long lost friend in the end.

Then there was the time he took potshots at Chelse Clinton. It would be one thing if she was in politics like Hilary.

Guess he forgot that officer and gentleman thing.

I won't vote for him. For all that maverick crap; he will follow the party line when expected.

Right. Now they use phrases like "states' rights" and "effectively managed law enforcement resources."
