Commemoration of Darwin attacks

It was today on the 19th of February, 65 years ago in 1942 that the Japanese bombed Darwin, Australia, and continued to do so for about a year into 1943. I just would like to bring this up on NSG in case some Australians on here have not heard, and for a bit of shameless nationalism (:p ) for those that gave their lives to ensure that Australia was not invaded by the Japanese. Discussion on this historical event is welcome.

Do you know of any commemorated "Darwin attacks" where Darwin is the guy?? In his late thirties, he went around bars and clubs and beat people up in a drunken rage?

I didn't know of any Darwin attacks, commemorated or not.

I feel like I should post something, but I really don't have very much to offer.

Compare to what happened in other places of the world, it could have been a lot worse. Plus, they really should call it the Bombing of Darwin Harbour, because the rest of the city wasn't really all that damaged. Sometimes I think they overdo the wartime memorial stuff in this country.

Now, if you want to see damage done to Darwin, you have to look to natural causes...

Australia - one of the few countries where you can drop a nuke on parts of it and no one would notice.

But wait! Don't you see?! It validates our sense of worth in the war! The more of them we put up, the less of an irrelevant nothing-state we were!

A part of it?! More like one of the few countries where you couldn't drop a nuke on anywhere but part of it to be noticed.

Boy, some religious fundamentalists will do anything to keep evolution out of the schools! :D
