Do you agree with anyone you disagree with?

IL Ruffino

.. on other issues?

EX: "I disagree with George Bush on abortion, but I agree with his stance on Iran.

I'm ignorant, so I don't agree with anyone on anything, and I disagree with those who agree with me.

Well obviously I do

For everyone to have completely opposite views to me seems a little absurd

depends on whether I can be bothered to argue and who it is really

All-in-all if you are hard work to argue with you can tell me scientology is the answer

all the time, its not a simple black and white world out there I'm afraid and we all have varying views on a vast amount of issues so its bound to happen

Yes. It has been known to happen.

I can also respect people who I flat out disagree with too - not the Bush example, but there have been a few.

Cameroi

sure. no one is 100% wrong about everything all the time. although i've known plenty who seem to try.

none of us are infallable either, and i certainly don't claim to be.
only to do a little more 'homework' then a lot of other people often appear to have.
and even then, there are some far more dedicated to doing so then i am as well.

unfortunately the latter don't seem at the moment to be as much in control of anything as i would prefer them to be, and the former, waaay too much so.

but of course i'm seeing that through the perspective of what could be that i seriously believe we would all be happier with.

EX: "I disagree with George Bush on abortion, but I agree with his stance on Iran. Funny enough, my views are pretty much reversed on this.

I also disagree with Fass on many things (him being Swedish and all) but all my latest posts replying to him seem to be agreeing. Which is scary.

Don't listen to him, guys! I'd rather have you believe I don't exist then believe that Pat Robertson's allegiance is to me!

Hey, unless somebody is completely insane, you'll be able to find some areas of agreement. For example, "the sky is blue". (Yes, yes, I know, it's probably gray and cloudy where you are...)

So let's take some examples:
I disagree with George W. Bush on nearly all things political, but I do think he has some useful things to say on immigration. (Ironically, that's the issue where most of his own party disagrees with him.)

And about his father, George H. W. Bush: I admit that in the first Gulf War I disagreed with his decision not to invade Baghdad. I admit now that he was right and I was wrong, as subsequent events have amply demonstrated. I also agree with him about broccoli.

While we're on a roll, I happen to agree with Rush Limbaugh that the Air & Space Museum in DC is a pretty cool place.

And I agree with both Pat Buchanan and Louis Farrakan that the Iraq war was a bad idea, and I agree with either of them on very little else. They also disagree with each other on most things, proving that you can't reduce everything to only two opposing points of view.

Very seldom, but it happens, like Smunkee and our shared hatred of lowlifes who would strike, spank or otherwise violate their children.

All the time.

It's hard to disagree with somebody on everything - though with some right-wing religious fundamentalists I can get very close.

Pretty often. I tend to agree with socialists that the system is entirely possible, and with religious people on the existence of God, and with secularists on the need to separate church and state...

I agree with virtually everyone on at least one thing.

I would find it difficult to believe that you would disagree with someone on everything. I'm sure they at least believe that humans shouldn't be wiped off the planet or something basic like that. :)

Perhaps... but if our reasons for believing that differ immensely, are we really agreeing?

There are actually people who believe that. Of course, they are never willing to start with themselves. :p

I tend to be able to find something I agree with everyone about......I mean, less incoherently, I am good at finding common ground.

Some people don't require me to search so hard though.

Like Fass mentioned, we have a big huge common ground issue, other people I have smaller common ground issues, like my mother in law and I both enjoy coffee.

Nope...Nallitir had a thread about that once. There's always someone out there who disagrees with something that nobody else would.

Well, the reasons may be different but you still agree that humanity should survive. So you at least agree with the statement itself. One may say that God wants us to be fruitful and multiply and another may say that humans are simply top dog and so should live, whatever the reasons may be... you at least have a fundamental agreement. Better than the alternative.

Well... maybe me and Nallitir would agree that pedophiles are the scum of the Earth. I would think we could have some common ground there at least.

I agreed with Pat Buchanan's essay about how the president failed at the Iraq war. I honestly thought hell had frozen over when I read it. Never in a million years did I think that right wing nut would write anything that made sense to me.
